Lochte Robbery Story: True or False

Agree completely. And I don't get how/why they pull off the other two swimmers who weren't identified by the judge.

Hopefully they all get home safe soon without much further incident. Jacks mom is a nurse at my daughters doctors office and she's always been so nice.

Either Brazil has some real reason for this, or they're crazy. I'm leaning towards crazy.

It's pretty crappy for him to leave the other three hanging.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Lochte is the least stupid of the group for getting the hell out of there. The others should have left sooner. Rio police are corrupt and after the five-year shitshow with the Sean Goldman custody case, there's no reason to trust Brazilian courts, either.

Ryan called his mom again, she told him to just come on home on the first flight and she'll make him a casserole.

Ok, I'm just speculating, but that seems like something that would go down...

My thoughts exactly! What a horrible way to treat the athletes.

It's like they think that if they can prove this one incident false, that it wipes all the other ones, too. Unlivable apartments in the Olympic village with sewage running down the walls when too many toilets were flushed. All the press agencies having their expensive cameras stolen from INSIDE arenas, including one from a ceiling. Open water swimmers getting dysentery. Dead bodies on the volleyball beach. A kayaker crashing into an underwater SOFA (!!). Ignoramus crowds booing like every event is a soccer match, including during anthems and medal ceremonies. Arenas that are 20% full. A German coach being killed by a taxi going headfirst into a concrete wall. A giant camera falling on spectators from midair. Letting divers compete in an unchlorinated green pool and lying to them that the water is fine when it's really full of microbes and "organic compounds"--they are damned lucky that British synchro diver with asplenia hasn't gotten very sick. But nooooo, this one thing with the moron swimmers probably didn't happen, so that means the rest of it hasn't, either! All is well!

Yikes did all of that really happen? That's crazy.

I could see a motive. Lochte likes to be in the spotlight and this gets him interviews and keeps his name in the news.

That said, I agree with the theory it happened and they were too drunk at the time to be taking notes. I have known 2 people to go to Brazil for work-one on a trip, the other for a long term stay. Both were mugged. One was almost strangled. One, was asked for a bribe by the police to complete a project. It's unsafe and there is rampant corruption.

The more attention Brazil draws to the mugging, the more I think it was actual police robbing the swimmers, not criminals impersonating the police.

They already had tickets. Of course they would try to get back home. Who would expect to be detained at the airport, for being the victim of a robbery? Or even for telling a story?

+1. And the initial reports said the passport seizure order wasn't for the two of them.

Bingo.

There were lots of police waiting for him at the airport, and he was a no show. Someone waved him off.

Is he missing in Brazil? It seems no one can find him, not the American Consolate, his lawyer, anyone. I hope he is ok.

Well, a British athlete has now been robbed at gunpoint: http://www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/37115269

So they can wave this one away, but then they'll have to deal with the next one. And the one after that. And the one after that.

The British delegation has now banned their athletes from taking taxis after dark or carrying valuables and told them there's no curfew but they leave the Village at their own risk and must inform someone if they're going anywhere. Presumably so they know where to look for the body when they don't come back.

Where's John Kerry? He needs to step up on this.

Lochte is said to be dating a playboy model from virginia. He didnt want to upset his gf because he had been with skanky women until 6am then madeup the robbery story according to brazilians

I think Brazil is doing this to try and suppress any further reporting of muggings or other crimes against the athletes and tourists. If you come forward and report, we will seize your passport, detain you, and who knows when you will get to come home.

Exactly!! Getting robbed in Rio is not good, but hey, robberies happen. The Brazilian authorities pulling people off planes and causing the U.S. consulate to get involved is much, much worse and looks really bad for Brazil. I mean the Brazilian response is much more scary to me than the robbery.
