Loved it, don't care. No CGI bullshit, better writing, great action, no fucking Jar Jar. It was awesome!!

How can you not care that nothing moved forward with the story if you like it so much? How it is better writing to just repeat the same plot, the same details, and even the basic traits of the characters? The prequels had too little dialogue, bad acting by Anakin, and too much violence but otherwise were fine in terms of plot. A 3rd death star/planet blown up in the series? Really? Why are we even teaching our kids to think critically and be innovative if we can't?

BC this new star wars is not about art its about money. Disney is tugging at the heart strings of the over 40 set with episode 7 (plus 8 and 9 to come) and will rope in the younger generation with the spin-offs. Doing an innovative movie would have left the old fans behind - as much as I have mixed feeling about the film, I have to admit that I almost cried why Han and Chewy appeared on screen - it was magical

+1
This had occurred to us as well. I think the force would definitely bring this group together when the timing is right and Leia knew it.

A different theory: "Many people — Boyega and Samuel L. Jackson himself included — think that Finn is the son of Mace Windu."

That makes SO much sense. If so, how do we think he got kidnapped by the First Order?

How could he be the son of Mace Windu? He'd be older than Luke and Leia.

I think Episode 7 was a way to reset the franchise. Derivative, yes. But the stage is set for the plot to go in a whole new direction for episodes 8 and 9. Killing off Han is part of that. If they planned to do a three movie rehash, then Han and Chewie would still be quipping their way through the galaxy.

Oh, Han. I don't know - not sure I can watch more movies if he's not in them

Have no fear bc Harrison Ford is listed in the cast for Episode VII (flashback anyone).

So the older generation is too set in their ways to appreciate a new movie? I certainly wasn't tied to those particular actors but I guess a lot of my generation was. Why should we all just go to the movies to see A New Hope on the screen then?

I thought Episode VII was a good pivot point to spin the new trilogy out from the original series. There was enough connection to feel like a continuation from Episode VI, and enough nostalgia to draw in the original fans ... but also some introduction of new characters and storylines, and killing off of old ones, to send the rest of the series in a new direction without feeling totally disconnected.

No, the existing fans (mostly older) are too invested in the old characters to appreciate a new a totally new movie with all new characters (this theory will be tested when Rouge One come out in December).

It's one thing to have the old characters come in. It's another thing to have the same plot and have new characters exactly like the old ones. I get the nostalgia with the characters and trying to bring them into the movie. What I don't understand is why another death star/planet had to be blown up and why there was another bit of data hidden into an R2 unit that the bad guys were chasing. Why the new characters have to be exactly like the old ones? Why did the new characters have the same experiences they did?

Just saw it yesterday. I agree w pp that the plot was interesting but basically the same as episode IV.

Also anyone posting anything about Carrie fisher's looks should ask themselves if they would say something similar about harrison ford or mark hammill

I have zero issues with her aging. My only problem is that they did something to her face to make it immobile to the point where it know ones painful for her to talk. I've seen the interviews and her face doesn't look like that all the time. Just in the movies.

They are almost 40 years older than when they started. Of course they look older! Honestly, Harrison has only started looking like an older man in the past few years. I'd still hit that

It appears painful - jeez, autocorrect.
