Why do they have a duty of care to provide mental health counseling to a student being disciplined? So if I do something wrong and my boss reprimands me, I should sue if I try to harm myself? It's crazy. |
Do you understand they weren’t just reprimanding him? They could have said don’t do it again and carried on but that’s not what happened. |
That's why ERs exist. If you're in active crisis you call 911. |
They were following a process which I'm sure is in their SOP. They spoke to him and got his side, then put him on leave until the hearing because his behavior was outrageous and they had good cause to keep him away from patients until the matter was resolved. It shouldn't be the school's responsibility to find him a counselor too (and ensure it's open 24/7!). He's an adult facing the consequences of his actions. If he becomes suicidal, that's on him. |
Wannabe obgyn just saw a patient’s vagina and then uses her chart to cyberstalk her on social media as soon as she leaves. No big deal?
|
No, the hotline was open 24/7. On what planet do you live on that you get to waltz into psychiatry visits without an appointment and without intake forms filled out, any time, day or night? Or that it’s a university’s obligation to provide such a service to tens of thousands of students? |
They needed at least 18 days to reach out to other female patients he had seen one-on-one alone and investigate their story. It may also be enough time to get a court order to retrieve the Instagram initiation query -- your messages are encrypted, but the method by which you searched and contacted someone may not be (did he search by name or by @handle for example). |
A university can be expected to have a higher duty of care than an employer. These lawsuits are not uncommon - Katie Meyer is a tragic example. And employers also have EAP programs etc and are careful to use certain HR processes that are a CYA. |
Do you think therapists are magicians and letting him cut the line and steal a hypothetical 30 or 60 minute session that night would have fixed everything going on in his head? Then what happens if the student bumped from the schedule so the med student could steal his spot takes his life the next day. Is that death the college’s fault too for letting the med student cut in line? |
Or it points back to his parents who have trained him poorly to deal with failure. |
He had almost certainly been told not to do that before. He absolutely knew he shouldn't have followed a patient on Instagram. There was a nurse with him for most of this so I'm guessing they were going to or had talked to her. |
+2 I’m in healthcare administration and the things doctors get away with will astound most people. |
What’s the crime? |
You’re just spit balling now. I guess we will find out more as the law suit proceeds. |
It’s just your opinion that they should have done even less. But now there’s a dead student. |
