Let's lose together

I purposely bought only candy I don’t like. So our trick or treaters are getting the nerds/sour patch kids/air heads/ sour straws mix from Costco. I usually buy that and the mix with grands and Twix, but I love both those things, so not this year!

One more pound to go before my next goal. I was proud of myself with all my travel last week, I didn’t have a scale but I put into practice all the habits I’ve been cultivating over the last nearly 6 months and made the best choices I could while allowing some grace for a cannoli (can’t visit where I went without a cannoli!). Despite 4 days of meals out, I was able to stick mostly to salads with lean protein or more simply prepared items like the fresh grilled fish on menus. I also hit the gym daily while on the road and kept up my exercise.

My BMI is down 7 points since I started this journey, my resting heart rate is down 8 bpm, I’ve lost 24% of my body weight, my cardio fitness level is in the high range, my plantar fasciitis seems to have resolved, I breathe easier.

Just a hey congratulations from me on this. That's a big loss across six months, PP -- I hope you are so proud of yourself! I have had the travel experience from both sides -- travel and gain a lot, but also travel and treat myself occasionally but mostly eat mindfully and healthfully, and yes it is so good to come back and check the scale and not see too much make up work to do, heh. Yet it can be hard to make those choices while traveling, so bravo, PP!

Thank you! I’m determined that this will be my last weight loss journey. This is my first one in a while that wasn’t related to shedding weight after having babies, and I had done pretty well after my last baby, maintaining that loss for 4 years until I let things go during COVID. I am proud of myself. I’ve gotten up every day for 6 months determined to make good choices, move my body, and have a good attitude about the whole thing. And I’m doing it for myself and no one else! I also really love my new clothes and an interim pit of jeans I bought in late August are already too big.

I only ate one piece of candy yesterday and am pretty proud of myself for that!

Mid 40s 5’6” woman checking in. I’m down another 2 lbs this week. 134 now, 45 lbs gone. My exercise has been awful this week as I’ve had bronchitis. Feels like I’ll have to start all over again building back up once this clears. So been managing the diet solely through food choices this week. Which appears just as effective as managing it through food choices and exercise, but I certainly feel better when I can get out there and exercise. Was hard to say no to the Halloween candy my kids brought home though.

Since I met and surpassed my most recent goal of 135 this week, I’m resetting to 129. That would be a total of 50 lbs. We shall see. Again, just going to continue doing what I’m doing, making good choices and building my stamina. At some point I will need to adjust to maintain, but I’m not there yet.

Good job, you! I haven't lost two pounds in one week since I was obese a year ago unless I was basically losing water weight from eating salty foods earlier in the week, so to do that in the 130s is amazing to me. That's fantastic! You must be working hard -- keep going, you!

Thanks. I’ve actually been pretty consistently losing 2 pounds a week since I started. Next week will be 6 months, so if I divide it by 26 weeks, I’m averaging 1.7 lbs a week with still a week to go. I have been working very hard, building my fitness level and challenging myself to reach goals that are fitness and health related in general, not just weight related. This is really the first time I’ve done a wholesale reset basically of my life and adjusted pretty much everything. I mostly cut out drinking, mostly cut out highly processed carbs, swapped a lot of poorer food choices (I really like blue cheese burgers) for big salads and lean proteins, took up running, cut back significantly on eating out, honestly record every bite I put in my mouth, significantly increased my water intake, and started (light, very light) weight training.

I realize that conventional wisdom says habit change is a hard way to maintain weight loss, but I feel really good about how I feel and don’t have any desire to go back to my previous ways. Just the benefits to my chronic asthma and plantar fasciitis alone are enough to make me stay the course. It’s also helped to really understand that a day or weekend of not great choices shouldn’t send me into a defeatist mindset and then pile on more poor choices. The me from 6 months ago would not recognize the me from today.

What did you eat yesterday and today?

Yesterday I had a bowl of mixed berries and 2 slices of prosciutto for breakfast and a cup of hot tea with cream. For lunch I had more strawberries, and a slice of homemade veggie quiche. A cup of iced coffee with cream for an afternoon snack. For dinner I had baked chicken drumsticks, a salad with balsamic vinegar, steamed green beans, and 1/2 c of wild rice. After dinner for a snack I had a couple slices of manchego and a slice of watermelon.

Today I had hot tea with cream, a plain Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries for breakfast. For lunch I had the same thing as yesterday. Afternoon iced coffee with cream. For dinner we are having vegetable lasagna, another salad with balsamic vinegar, and roasted cauliflower. I don’t know if I’ll want a snack later, sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. Yesterday my app tells me I ate 1350 calories. So far today I am at 600 and would expect to be between 1200-1300 after dinner, more if I have a snack later, but aiming for under 1500 per day.

Wow thanks for this info. Seems like you would be hungry but you aren't, so good food choices. What app do you use to track calories?

I’ve been using Noom. But I’m sure there are others out there for free. I’ve just found it particularly helpful versus others I’ve tried. The food databank is really comprehensive and I like the way it displays the foods I enter and shows me what calories I have left based on my goals and any exercise I’ve done that day. It syncs with my Apple Watch so gets a lot of data like steps, calories burned, etc. from it and it talks back to my health app as well.

I made some bad choices this past weekend and gained a couple of pounds through bloating or water weight or whatever. I’m back on track this week though, trying to focus on proper nutrition, sleep, and lifting heavy weights!

How does everyone feel about Lean Cuisine?

I had one for dinner last night - and then a bowl of ice cream. This morning I'm down in weight. Maybe I should eat Lean Cuisine for dinner for a while?

I have been stuck at a weight range for almost 2 months!!

I eat Healthy Choice Simply Steamers meals for lunch sometimes. Those are my only forays into the frozen meal arena these days.

I reached my 9th goal on my weigh in today for a total loss of 90 lbs so far. Yay!
