If you support Arizona - Don't be too quick to judge an illegal 'alien'

Nobody is saying that illegal immigrants are to blame for all of society's failings.

We're saying that illegal immigration causes problems that can be prevented by cracking down on illegal immigration.

This is not like Germans ranting against the Jews. It's about following the law. I've posted on this thread before saying people who disagree need to take action and change the laws. As the law stands, illegal immigrants are by definition criminals.

my friend has been an american citizen for 30 years but she still has an accent. her parents just got their GC because they're tired of the whole process of applying for a visa and having it denied over and over every single time they want to come and visit.
they went to niagara falls and passed to the canadian side. here is the dialog with the border officer as they try to re-enter the US:
Officer: can I see your documents please?
Friend: here it is, officer (and she hands him her american passport and 2 green cards - mom and dad)
O: What is it?
F: My passport and my parents' GCs
O: Which country are you from?
F: US, you have my passport right there.
O: OK, were you the responsible for filing for your parent's GCs?
F: Yes sir
O: Do they live with you?
F: Yes (while in her mind she's screaming IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! WHY DO YOU CARE? IS IT JUST BECAUSE I HAVE AN ACCENT?)
O: Everything seems fine, welcome "home" (with a sarcastic tone)
F: Thanks officer (with a sarcastic tone and screaming deep inside FU)

I only wish people who were born and raised in this country could go through one experience like this in their lives to see how it really really feels like.

We the People, have elected representatives who are supposed to do the People's business. Immigration reform should have been a priority. Members of Congress, this and former administrations, are more concerned with getting reelected than dealing with problems. The power to do something, ultimately, is vested with the electorate.

The 2010 Congressional election is going to knock off a lot of incumbents who will be replaced by ultra Conservative politicians. To wit: Bennett of Utah losing Republican primary. Both parties are straddling the fence-- they don't want to lose Hispanic voting bloc but also fear losing an even larger voting bloc, non-Hispanic. If the GOP regains both the House and Senate, immigration Reform will happen and the President will not veto this legislation because he wants to be reelected. Close to 60% of Americans are in favor of Arizona's law and this number will grow exponentially by 2012.

The Republican Gubernatorial candidate of Georgia has made it a part of his campaign platform to enact Arizona's law in Georgia. Other states, not just border states, will do the same. John McCain is in the fight of his political life and even though he has changed his tune, he may lose to the Republican primary.

So, you see, the People will do something by electing a Congress that has the guts to act bcause they understand that illegal immigration is not a little pregnancy and, once elected, they want to be reelected.

Give it another few decades and Caucasians will have it as good as Mexicans when it comes to rights and privileges. What goes around comes around.

Time will tell. I doubt it. It has become an "us against them" battle and "us (WASP's) always win. We have more money.

I was born and raised in the US, but my parents are from a different country. My dad has been stopped several times, and one officer told him that "Hey, this isn't like your country, blah, blah, blah". My dad has been here 30 years, but just brushes it off.

Honestly, it's no big deal. They're doing their jobs. Some officers are jerks, and some aren't. My dad doesn't hold it against the whole country. He knows that there are plenty of jerks in the country that he came from also.

The example that you mention above proves nothing. What point are you trying to make? That some people are racist? Yes, and that's true everywhere, NOT JUST IN THE US. I find people here in the US less racist than in other countries. The US has amazingly tolerant people and doesn't get enough credit for that.

Your friend had her papers with her and is here legally. She had nothing to worry about. That is how it works when you are LEGAL. When you are illegal, you should be worried, because you're breaking the law.

To the PP who mentioned the racist exchange her friend went through.
Many African- Americans do know what racism feels like.
