What are your rules about smoking pot at home?

Exactly!
And since we are talking about doctors, talk to a doctor - pediatrician, anesthesiologist or pulmonologist - about what they are seeing with respect to kids who regularly use weed. The health care providers on the front line treat these kids and can tell you the horrific truth and consequence before the newspaper stories get written. (Anesthesiologists are saying that kids who regularly use aren’t receptive to the normal amount of anesthetics. Weed is interfering with normal pain pathways. )

I’m not universally anti-cannabis, but nobody should use regularly before age 25-28, and certainly not a college kid. And absolutely it should be stigmatized enough that they know it’s “wrong” and shouldn’t do it in your home.

You're an absolute idiot. I doubt you pay for college or even have kids of college age, but if you stopped paying for college abruptly, that would 1000% ruin their life much faster than pot would.

The poster is not an idiot! She just has a different viewpoint than you do.

I happen to agree that if my kid were regularly using cannabis in college (I know - after school special language, PP - you can hold your fire) makes college worthless and college at 60-90k a year should not be worthless. If my kid were regularly using as I am working my tail off to pay for it, you better believe I wouldn’t pay. Boundaries … and yes, using cannabis ought to be stigmatized because it is harmful to the health and well being of these kids.

Its a little dramatic to say a parent not paying for college until DC gets their act together will "ruin their life."
Kids are entitled to many things from their parents but not college tuition. Its a huge investment from parents and if the kids are not taking that investment seriously it needs to pause until they are able to take it seriously.
People mature at different rates, taking a pause so they can grow up and take responsibility will not ruin their life.

Pot smokers end up in low paying jobs eventually anyway so why waste money on college if they’re spending their time there high?

I'll say it again. You are an idiot. You would happily ruin your kids future over a joint. I hope your kids never speak to you again if you do that.

I work for the general counsel of a huge organization in DC. He vapes. You're just dumb.

If they are getting all of their work done and performing, would you still jeopardize their future on principle?

This. I see this as an illness.

Yes! The wish for our kids to have clean lungs, a healthy heart, good coping strategies, emotional regulation and top cognitive skills illness. That illness is one many of your neighbors seem to have, PP.

Then he is a complete loser. Grownups that vape are embarrassing. He’ll regret the popcorn lungs he’s creating with every juvenile puff.

Kids take a pause or gap years all the time. With parental help, the kid can grow up, go to rehab or therapy etc and then go back to school when ready. No shame in any of that and a better ROI for all.

This. And I would also discontinue paying for college.

I am an adult who has used cannabis in various forms - but exclusively edibles for several years - since my late teens. I would not be comfortable with my kids smoking pot in my house in any context or at any age. Boundaries.
