The Bachelor 2021- Matt James

I really like Michelle, the teacher. But, I don't think Matt is into her. She's a catch. But he doesn't want to play ball.

He's not into Bri either. They just have a lot of similar things in their past. Bri doesn't get it.

The big question is WHO is going to host the "After the Final Rose." It definitely WON'T be Rachel Lindsay.

I'm wondering if it'll be JoJo? And maybe she'll have Tayshia on as well to discuss race issues. Frankly, it's a tough spot... if you are the host and you say anything deemed "wrong," it could be the end of your bright future.

+1. Matt doesn't want to get married. He wants to live with Tyler and party.

He seems kinda boring. Apparently his mom is a Trumpet and he was a registered republican as of last year, now unregistered. Not sure how I feel about the first black Bachelor being a republican

I think it’s a questionable choice to have the first black bachelor be a Republican who essentially became popular due to being best friends with one of the white contestants. Criticize me all you want for it but there it is.

After that let’s talk about the women- anyone standing out? Do the contestants actually come up with these gimmicky intros or is that facilitated by producers?

I'm wondering why this is questionable to you. You don't know any black republicans who have white friends? You need to expand your circle a bit.

I’m Black and don’t know anyone on my life who is a Black republican with white friends.

A week or two ago rachael kirkconnell posted a photo of a matcha drink with Achos book uncomfortable conversations with a black man in the background. I wonder if that was a coincidence.

Anyone watch last night? Wow. That conversation with his father. A lot of people were speculating the producers brought him in without Matt’s knowledge, but it seems that wasn’t the case.

Anyone else feel like that conversation was exploitative / frustrated that they ran an absent black father storyline for the first black bachelor?

There is an amazing Instagram account- bachelordata.

She breaks down the episode into screen time by different contestants, has shown how WOC get less screen time even though they were the majority of the cast, etc. A lot of great charts and graphs

Matt just isn't ready or willing to get married! He isn't smitten by any of them. Sure, he's most generous with Rachel. But unlike most leads at this point, he isn't going crazy saying "I'm in love with 2 women!...what am I gonna do!!??" Matt is fine with the kissy-kissy, but he doesn't go beyond that emotionally.

He's just not that into the whole idea.

He sucks. Completely boring and unemotionally attached to anyone. He was a terrible pick.

I read this comment before watching the episode and thought, well, if they had the conversation and he's an absent father, what were they supposed to do....
Then I watched the episode. What a train wreck. I was practically squirming in my chair. It was really awful and never should have aired. I understand that as Bachelor/Bachelorettes, they are always mic'ed up, so if something happens, it's filmed. They should have made an exception here and allowed that conversation to happen in private. They've allowed, or at least chosen to not air, other conversations to happen. Like some Bachelors mention "hey, I called your dad and asked for your hand" and they don't show that. They CHOSE to show this and air it, and it was inappropriate.

A Black republican with white friends (and family) is basically the description of my BIL and a bunch of other guys in his friend group. They're not in the DC area.

People are outraged,not shocked.

Why give someone who does that a spot on a show that should know how to vet people? Plenty of ladies want to be on the show who wouldn’t do the things she has done.

This is over some “offensive” likes on Instagram and a picture of her at a sorority event that yes, had an insensitive theme but dozens and dozens of them go on every year in the south. What exactly has she done, other than be ignorant, for which she apologized? I’m trying to understand the outrage, but making her out to be a terrible racist person isn’t the right answer IMO. I feel like most people, if scrutinized in the way these contestants are, have something in their past that is shameful.

Maybe you are a perfect person. I don’t know. All I know is that I’m glad every little stupid thing I did in college isn’t publicly on the internet. I’m very grateful to be just 10 years older than her for that reason.

I’m more annoyed with the show than her. They were responsible for vetting ladies to go on the the show with the first black bachelor. They should have been prepared for something like this. I think she is doing a better job of apologizing and learning than the show, especially Chris.

I’m not perfect, but I knew that those types of parties were offensive and wrong in the 90s when I went to college in the south. She’s not a terrible person, but she made mistakes that should have disqualified her from being on the show. The show got what it wanted- controversy and publicity as interest in the show was waning.

+1. Rachel L. said it best when she said, and I'm paraphrasing, OK, they went to this party to play dress up to an era. What part would I play? What would I wear? If you just take a moment to consider that, these parties are just awful and should never be excused. Ever.

If she was in the sorority, she would have attended the party and dresses like the others.

1. National sorority banned the party before this took place.
2. Not sure if you were involved in Greek life but not everyone goes to everything.

Right? How on earth they managed to find the one black Republican in NYC is beyond me.

He is so boring. I hate how he kisses with his eyes open, and like his tongue is too big for his mouth.
