Should I report a co worker for Medicaid/ food-stamp fraud?

Yes report it. They county can do their job and investigate. You don't have to, DCUM doesnt have to, they have to.

Maybe people scamming the gov't get off on bragging about it to others. It's part of their perverse nature. Same with other scammers - those things usually catch up with them since private sector gives a damn about P&L.

I used to work for social services and trust me people do not lie about cheating the system. Most likely this girl IS cheating. If her boyfriend lives with her and they have children together, they are both legally responsible for the children. This means that if the boyfriend lives with her and they have children together, both her income and the boyfriend’s income will be used to determine their benefits. OP absolutely did the right thing.

I understand the obvious. She "cheats" - she runs the risk of being reported and shouldn't get the benefits and blah blah. But frankly, the OP's intent behind the reporting is where my disdain lies. It's clear from her posts and follow ups that "saving the government from fraud" is really not the reason she reported. But it's moot as the OP has made her decision.

Social worker here. Look if she's doing something wrong they will find out. We don't care about the person's intent. If someone were bragging about cheating welfare I would report as well.

New York State had an on-line calculator. It's not hard to get $790 a month, and that's before WIC benefits.

Many people on SNAP lie--say they have a disabled adult or child or both in the house, and lie about income and other expenses. No one checks. They found a bunch of GS-13 and 14 federal workers on SNAP.

Many calculations of so-called "corporate welfare" include food stamps. Who gets the money in the end? Valuable hard-earned income is taken from taxpayers and given in voucher form to morons who trade that money for a few pennies worth of Cheetos, the distribution of which makes Mr. Frito Lay very wealthy.

OP here. I reported her this morning. Apparently there's a reward system for reporting fraud. I had no idea.

Op here. I will not get a reward because I choose to remain anonymous. This person is breaking the law and she deserves it. She went out of her way to tell me she cheats the system at least 3-4 times. She has told several other people at church. It actually makes me sick to hear all of her stories. She has no morals and needs a reality check. If the children really need assistance for food the government will give it to them. They obviously have money if she can afford a LV handbag and $200 shoes and lots of other shopping trips she likes to brag about.

OP, if you believe a nail tech makes $2000 in tips a week, let's not pretend you can tell a fake LV from a real one. Your "I hate welfare frauds" message is getting a bit too on the nose now. Quit your troll while you are ahead.

+1 OP, I don't believe either you were truthful in your post or you have any idea which statements of hers were true. None of them could be true, but you're going on the assumption that all of them are true. There is no way a nail tech makes $2k weekly in tips. And I don't believe in this market that it's easy for a low-level drug dealer to clear that either. This falls in the category of DCUM should have told you to MYOFB. You have no evidence, besides the statements of this woman. You're not seeing welfare checks or anything besides the crap she tells you. I agree from your posts that I don't think you'd be able to tell a high end purchase from a fake. Also, my brother's wife, who made $7/hr and was not on welfare with one child, while my brother didn't make much more, also had the best phones and expensive purses. I make way more than they do and I never had any of that stuff. It's a choice on what you spend your money on. I also agree that because they are not married that his income is a moot point.

The danger in reporting her is that whatever happens to her is now your fault. I have no idea where you're volunteering, but I work with homeless people, and there's a lot of mental illness in the homeless population. If she wasn't taking advantage of the system, but loses any of her benefits because she can't produce any documentation (even though she should be able to), that's on you for not ignoring her blatantly ridiculous comments.
