Actually that young, dumb thief OP works with is making life harder for everyone else.  Those benefits aren't free--they come in the form of taxes on everyone, and in the form of giving away part of this nation's independence to other countries via government debt held by other nations.

Presence of those entitlements (food stamps, section 8) also bid up the price for food and housing, so poor people who aren't on the dole have to pay more, and the working poor become poorer.  Why do you think the agribusiness lobby and the construction industry lobby so hard for more food stamps and more section 8 vouchers?  [/quote]

Many calculations of so-called "corporate welfare" include food stamps.  Who gets the money in the end?  Valuable hard-earned income is taken from taxpayers and given in voucher form to morons who trade that money for a few pennies worth of Cheetos, the distribution of which makes Mr. Frito Lay very wealthy.
