Those benefits aren't free--they come in the form of taxes on everyone, and in the form of giving away part of this nation's independence to other countries via government debt held by other nations. Presence of those entitlements (food stamps, section 8) also bid up the price for food and housing, so poor people who aren't on the dole have to pay more, and the working poor become poorer. Why do you think the agribusiness lobby and the construction industry lobby so hard for more food stamps and more section 8 vouchers? [/quote]
