This Is Us -- Season 2

I didn't like how Kate treated her mom. Her mom was trying to be supportive, and Kate takes everything too seriously when it comes to her mom.

The show’s just dragging out to get more Milo screen time, right? The show became a hit, audiences live Milo, so the writers have to stretch out the story for another season.

I don't think so. Milo is a named core cast member. I think they always planned to go back-and-forth across the timelines in telling the Big Three's overarching story.

I saw the ratings dropped 20% this week from the premiere. Has it reached the, "I'll tune in when I hear something big is going to be revealed" stage?

I like the show, but I'm kind of in that boat. I watched the premiere because I thought we'd learn what happened to Jack. It's kind of a show I'd rather just binge on Netflix or something so I can hit the high points and skip everything else.

I gave up on HTGAWM because there was just too much dragging it all out. Anyone else feel this way?

I feel bad for Rebecca. She doesn't seem like a bad mom at all. Randall seems to be the only one of the kids who understands her or is willing to see her side. The other two seem to idolize Jack therefore Rebecca must be bad.

I seem to be the only one who is going crazy waiting for the "how Jack died" episode. Sure I want to see it, but I'm also interested in how Rebecca ended up with Miguel and more of what exactly caused the strain between Kevin, Kate and Rebecca. There has to be more to it. Well, maybe not a strain between Kevin and Rebecca because he is just self-centered and doesn't consider his mom's feelings.

I wonder if Kate's (assumed) role in Jack's death played a part in the rift between Rebecca and Kate. Rebecca may have blamed Kate at one point, or perhaps Kate assumed her mom blamed her since she's so sensitive to everything her mother does. If Rebecca did blame Kate, that could also explain why Kevin isn't closer to his mom. He always seems to take Kate's side.

As for Miguel, they showed Kate and Randall at Miguel's house the night of the fire. I bet the whole family stayed with him after Jack's death since their house burned down, and at some point, Rebecca and Miguel developed feelings for each other (one having just lost her husband and the other his best friend).

Your theory about Rebecca and Miguel makes total sense. I always thought the rift between Rebecca and Kevin was because she married Miguel. He obviously has no love for Miguel, despite his best efforts.

I'm guessing that Miguel and Rebecca didn't marry very close to when Jack died. I think it was several years later for a couple of reasons. One, we don't see Rebecca having any relationship with Miguel's kids, one of whom is only about a year or so older than the Big Three. Second, I think the weird faces and comments Kevin makes about Miguel would not still be a thing if this were going on 20 years of togetherness. Remember at Thanksgiving, when Kevin cringed asking about them and Randall said something like "He's our stepfather, not ISIS?" I have a ot-there theory that Rebecca and Miguel reconnected at Randall and Beth's wedding and married after them.

And at some point, Miguel will have to divorce his wife.

I think it would be easier for the kids (Kevin) to accept if they did marry after reconnecting at Randall and Beth's wedding. They would have more trouble with it if they married very soon after Jack's death.

Ooh...here's a plot twist NO ONE will see coming! What if...Miguel is the one to set the house on fire and kill Jack so he can make the moves on Rebecca? Bam! No wonder Kevin hates him and Kate does not like her mom!

sad to say I am over this show. I cannot look at Kate anymore and Randall is annoying. I no longer care how Jack died.

Milo Ventimiglia deserves an Emmy from last night's show.

The Emmy went to Sterling K. Brown.

Yes, the Emmy given out this year went to Sterling K. Brown for his work on last season. I suggested that Ventimiglia get an Emmy next year for his work in last night's episode.

Nice idea but there’s no category for a single episode for a drama lead actor.

To the contrary, when an actor attempts to win an Emmy, he submits - wait for it - one episode. There's no category for the entire season for a drama lead actor.

Ok. I thought Sterling and Milo (and others) were up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for last season. And Sterling won. So what episode did Sterling win for?

It always shows the episode after their name:
DRAMA ACTOR:
Sterling K. Brown, “This Is Us” – “Memphis”
Anthony Hopkins, “Westworld” – “Trompe L’Oeil”
Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul” – “Expenses”
Matthew Rhys, “The Americans” – “Crossbreed”
Liev Schreiber, “Ray Donovan” – “Rattus Rattus”
Kevin Spacey, “House of Cards” – “Chapter 53”
Milo Ventimiglia, “This Is Us” – “Moonshadow”

Kate really grated when she told her mom she was wrong for just existing. That was so wrong.

I'm surprised at all the Toby hate! I feel like Kate is irrational and always blames everyone/everything else for her life and Toby loves her and is just trying hard to keep her happy.

Yes.

It was not explicitly said, but she blamed her mom for her bailing on the talent show. When she heard her mom singing in the shower (where she barged in), she made this face like her mom tried to one up her on purpose. I am so over Kate -- and I think I am supposed to be, right? They are writing her to be unlikeable.

They already split up. That's why he has the bachelor pad where Jack stays post-fight and the rest of the Pearsons stay post-fire.

Not according to the creator/main writer, Dan Fogelman"

"And then with Toby, what I’ve continued to find is, people are so protective of Kate as a character. They love Chrissy so much that the slightest — all of our characters are inherently doing good things, bad things, flawed things, acting out, but whenever Toby does it to Kate [laughs], people have a visceral response because they’re so protective of Kate because they like her so much. Yea, enough already with the Jack death teasers. I grow weary.

And Beth....I like her but find her character fake, especially this season. Does anybody really act that way? Talk that way? So many of her lines are cool "one-liners". I get it, she's cool, adores her husband and likes sex, but it seems forced.
