I wonder if Kate's (assumed) role in Jack's death played a part in the rift between Rebecca and Kate.  Rebecca may have blamed Kate at one point, or perhaps Kate assumed her mom blamed her since she's so sensitive to everything her mother does.  If Rebecca did blame Kate, that could also explain why Kevin isn't closer to his mom.  He always seems to take Kate's side.

As for Miguel, they showed Kate and Randall at Miguel's house the night of the fire.  I bet the whole family stayed with him after Jack's death since their house burned down, and at some point, Rebecca and Miguel developed feelings for each other (one having just lost her husband and the other his best friend). Your theory about Rebecca and Miguel makes total sense.  I always thought the rift between Rebecca and Kevin was because she married Miguel.  He obviously has no love for Miguel, despite his best efforts.[/quote]
