While they were very friendly and attempted to stay fair to both sides - the fact that they put up Brian in a hotel room while allowing Gabby to leave alone, uncomfortably driving the van to an unknown destination is outrageous.

I get that the officer stressed in the video that they, the authorities could not treat either party differently due to gender but c’mon…..gender definitely matters when sending a Female off alone in a van to fend for herself while driving a Male to a hotel and assuring he arrives safe and will be taken care of.

A girl has a much better chance at possibly attracting predators vs. a guy.
So yes gender matters in this case.

She deserved a hotel room while Brian should have had the option to just take the van.
Bad judgement of the officers IMO.

Also labeling her the “Aggressor” and him the “Victim” was preposterous at best.
Even then w/out the knowledge we have now.

Anyone speaking to them could see that she was continuously crying while he was chatting cheerfully w/the cops.
It was apparent that she was scared while to him, none of what was happening was even a big deal.

I disagree.

If she had the van, then she had transportation and he didn't know where to find her. He had no way to go look for her, as he was effectively stranded.

If they took her to the hotel, then he'd know where she was and have transportation to get to her.

I respectfully disagree.
If Gabby had been the one to get the hotel room for the night, then the police would have driven her there as they did him and they would not have told him where the hotel was located.

The only way that he would have found out is if she had texted/called him after the cop dropped her off.
If she did that, then that would have been entirely on her.

I wonder where she ended up spending that evening at.
It must have been scary for her to just park the van in a remote area to sleep.
As a woman I would have been terrified.
Especially for my first night alone.

It would have been much better if she could have had her own hotel that night.
To rest, think and possibly talk to her family and some close friends.
It could have given her a nice respite considering she was in tears.

Brian likely just watched television all night long.

If he's alive, he's gotta use his phone or bank card at some point. But I have to think he's dead by now, I can't see him trying to hide and thinking he can get away from it all.

I see what you’re saying and wondered about this too, but I assumed it was because she’s the legal owner of the van.

Exactly. They were supposed to give him her van? That would make no sense.
Hindsight is always 20/20.

She wasn’t murdered for two more weeks anyway. There is no reason to think that giving her the hotel room would have changed the ultimate outcome. I think the only thing that would have would be her parents convincing her to come home and dump him. If he didn’t kill her in WY he would have killed her eventually.

So the police were basically directed to the Carlton Reserve by Brian's "not to be trusted" parents who told police that he went for a day hike there?!? What kind of police department is this? Wouldn't anyone think that the parents purposely misled police to give Brian more time to get away. He's probably long gone now. Way to go Brian's parents! They better be held responsible for this POS. I hope Gabby's parents find a way to slap with them with something sort of charges. These people are awful.

Even though she was the legal owner of the van, I am pretty sure the officers would have been able to get Gabby’s formal consent for him to take possession of the van.

They should have done this.
She verbally stated to the officers that she wasn’t comfortable driving the van and that Brian always did the driving.
Yet after hearing this, the cops still made her drive it off to God only knows where.
They knew she was emotionally very upset since she had been crying over the last hour.
In spite of her not wanting to drive the van, along with being so upset they gave her no option but to go off on her own, in a town with less than like 5,500 people where she did not know a soul to fend for herself while Brian got a free, cushy hotel with a private hot shower, a real bed to sleep in along with a locked/secured door.

The police owe Gabby’s family an apology for sure.
Not saying they caused her to die….just saying they were not looking out for her best interests at all on the evening of 8/12.

Wouldn't be surprised if the parents (and other family members) have been regularly withdrawing cash from their accounts and conveniently left wads of it laying around the house for Brian to pick up. That, plus a passport, probably means he is long gone probably to a place with difficult extradition back to US. Parents could deny they purposefully gave him money to help with his escape.

He tells them he's going for a walk in the swamp, with a backpack filled with cash & passport, and that's what they report.

No they do not. You are spewing nonsense based on bias due to the outcome. At the time they were pulled over, Brian was the one with marks on his face due to Gabby striking him. It was also her van AND she was speaking with her parents. If she was so concerned about being alone or driving the van, she could have followed the cops to town and her parents could have paid for a hotel.

Where were her parents? She was on the phone with them. You tell your daughter, this person seems dangerous. I’m coming to get you.

Don’t you dare ask where her parents were. They did not know about the police video until after she was missing. They only knew what their adult daughter told them. The second something felt off and they didn’t hear from her they began calling Brian, his parents and then the police. They did everything right here, so don’t for a second criticize grieving parents.

People are scared to believe that something like this could happen to their child, so they convince themselves that, if they were the parents, they would have been able to stop it. It’s human nature, I guess. It’s still so cruel to her parents.

+1 - she was 22 years old. She has raised the money to buy this van. Brian wasn't some random guy.

At 22 my parents would have absolutely come to my aid if I had asked, but day to day I was living 300 miles away in a medium sized city. I had a job and a car. I saw them maybe once a month, if that.

Laundrie parents say he left with a backpack Tuesday saying he was going for a hike, which they thought would be a day hike. When he didn't return, they went driving around looking for his car. They found it, and it had a police note on it that said it needed to be moved. The Laundries left it there in case Brian needed it, but the next day they went back and got it.

Righttttt. Innocently had no idea he wouldn't return. Don't ask, don't tell. Well, he might be dead now, if that Naples body was his.

He's too big of chicken to go to a country without extradition. We are talking places like Russia, China, Afghanistan, etc. He's not prepped for that.

Naples body likely an oldster who had a heart attack. That’s their demographic.

I doubt his trashy MC parents had more than a few grand to give him. Plus they had to retain the lawyer. They can’t afford to permanently keep him on the run.

We have been over this SO. MANY. TIMES. She admitted to slapping/scratching him, so technically she was the abuser in the situation. They're not legally allowed to put the abuser up in a hotel room.
