I watched the police body cam footage & think the police ultimately made many mistakes. While they were very friendly and attempted to stay fair to both sides - the fact that they put up Brian in a hotel room while allowing Gabby to leave alone, uncomfortably driving the van to an unknown destination is outrageous. I get that the officer stressed in the video that they, the authorities could not treat either party differently due to gender but c’mon…..gender definitely matters when sending a Female off alone in a van to fend for herself while driving a Male to a hotel and assuring he arrives safe and will be taken care of. A girl has a much better chance at possibly attracting predators vs. a guy. So yes gender matters in this case. She deserved a hotel room while Brian should have had the option to just take the van. Bad judgement of the officers IMO. Also labeling her the “Aggressor” and him the “Victim” was preposterous at best. Even then w/out the knowledge we have now. Anyone speaking to them could see that she was continuously crying while he was chatting cheerfully w/the cops. It was apparent that she was scared while to him, none of what was happening was even a big deal.
I disagree. If she had the van, then she had transportation and he didn't know where to find her. He had no way to go look for her, as he was effectively stranded. If they took her to the hotel, then he'd know where she was and have transportation to get to her.
I respectfully disagree. If Gabby had been the one to get the hotel room for the night, then the police would have driven her there as they did him and they would not have told him where the hotel was located. The only way that he would have found out is if she had texted/called him after the cop dropped her off. If she did that, then that would have been entirely on her. I wonder where she ended up spending that evening at. It must have been scary for her to just park the van in a remote area to sleep. As a woman I would have been terrified. Especially for my first night alone. It would have been much better if she could have had her own hotel that night. To rest, think and possibly talk to her family and some close friends. It could have given her a nice respite considering she was in tears. Brian likely just watched television all night long.
