Your dogs are NOT members of the family

but what are outdoor rugs?

Patio mats.

Not sure why you’d suggest that it might be a sarcastic question. It’s a normal thing to have in nicer homes. We have them too.

Not the PP, but God that was an asshole response.

"It's a normal thing in nicer homes"
DP here. I wouldn't go that far to use the word "asshole," but it did sound like a burn to me.

Both condescending & snobbish.

Everyone, please just stop. This happens on every DCUM thread when the OP goes missing and there's nothing more to discuss. We're all riveted by the whole dog people saga but there's nothing else to know now, so everyone starts sniping at one another to fill the void. Let's just stop and hope OP comes back and gives us an update.

Hopefully OP cancelled the party and left town. Yikes.

This trend of taking dogs everywhere has gotten beyond silly and needs to stop. Pets stay home or get boarded, they don't attend parties for petes sake! Th

My child has a severe dog allergy (not exagerating--when your child has to go to the ER with a swollen face when a dog passed by within 10 feet). Anyway, we are a dog free house. DD does allergy shots and is constantly on allegra and singulair (because you cannot avoid dogs all the time everywhere). Anyway, no dogs of any kind, for any reason are allowed in my house. If someone shows up with a dog they cannot come in--HARD STOP. My childs health is more important than someone pet (and before you start up, I am a dog lover and always have been).

It's op's home. You don't have to provide written proof of anything. If you are on my property and I tell you to leave and you stay, you are trespassing. I would absolutely call the cops on a person who would not leave.

Omg PP that sounds horrific, I'm so sorry!
I'm assuming that she can't go to playgrounds either, as folks constantly bring their dogs on & around the equipment all day?

I know people take their emotional support & aid dogs on flights all the time, do you know if they have to pre-register or somehow inform the airline that they'll have a dog on board (so you can avoid that flight) or can someone simply board with a dog as long as their carrier fits under the seat in front of them?

I cannot imagine the level of high alert you have to constantly be on ANY time you leave your home for ANY reason.

( hugs) to you & your sweet daughter.

No, I insist the cat wedding people showed up as well and the inevitable ensued.

Oh, please.
The natives aren't getting restless, it's barely been a day since the OP posted.

People just don't like insufferable a$$holes who attempt to elevate themselves by passive aggressively insulting someone else (and btw, they're allowed to call them out on it when they do it). Someone who's confident & secure doesn't resort to ridiculous like that.

For someone with a nicer home, the PP that made that comment was really low class.

If they continue to insist, I would revoke their invitation.

Yesss!!!! Oh my god, that would be comedy GOLD!!
It does sound like OP’s relatives would insist on bringing their dogs to Cat Wedding. I’ve never wanted anything more on DCUM than to see the resulting video of such an event!

MIL is thinking that we should give in to keep the peace. DH and I now never want to see any of these dogs or their owners again. Another aunt who has a cat (and is not pushing to bring the cat) has warned me that one of them will show up with the dog anyway and we will have to be prepared to turn them away at the door. She thinks we might want to cancel and just say someone is sick. I'm not going to cancel and have no problem telling anyone who shows up with a dog that they can't come in.

I haven't read the rest of the thread, so maybe (hopefully) someone has addressed this already, but giving in would not keep the peace, since many of your family members agree with you, just are too chicken to say so.

I also agree that blaming your niece isn't fair to her or her parents, who likely would be subject to snarky comments from these boundary challenged family members.

That being said, that's many problems just because of ONE allergic person. I would have done something outside so that everybody's happy. Or wouldn't have invited that person.
Sorry but at some point it's a lot of stress just for one person.

I believe OP is more interested in seeing the allergic niece rather than the whacko aunts and uncles. And the dogs don’t have to be there for the people to be there.

This can't be said often enough.

Also, you can't let rude, crazy, or rude AND crazy run your life.

If I were you OP, I would totally cancel. Your family is nuts, I am pp who said they belong in inpatient facility. You should take a break from all the loony tunes for at least 5 years. The sheer gull and insanity will be in memoriam on dcum!

Thanks. Dogs are everywhere and we can’t just stay home, so we have taken precautions so that her reactions are not as severe as they were before we started that whole regimen. She is a preteen and she knows her body and her reactions. The only thing I can control 100% is inside my home. We also decline invites from friends/relatives with dogs to their houses. I’m hoping her allergy gets less severe as she gets older, but who knows. I do feel strongly that the OP gets to dictate whether dogs can come into her house. I commend her for being so kind to her niece. Most people will not go out of their way.
