What's your secret weapon "non recipe"

Anonymous
I have a few non recipe recipes and had to lol at the rice Krispy treat pp. me too- raves every single time. Add a layer of melted chocolate chips to the top and people will go nuts. Hilarious.

But a good one that I throw together often in the summer is this corn salad:
Five ears of fresh corn- strip the kernels off.
Cherry tomatoes
Diced red onion
Feta
Cilantro
Make a dressing of olive oil and lime with some cumin and cayenne pepper and toss the corn mixture in it.

My kids also love salami roll ups which are so gross and not even a recipe but here goes: spread cream cheese on a slice of salami roll up and spear with a toothpick. Voila.

I had a good friend who made the meatba thing with the chili sauce and grape jelly--I think hers also had ginger ale? As an Italian, I thought it was a crime to do that to a poor meatball, but honestly they were super good party food.

Toast slices of good rustic bread. Cut avocado and either smash or slice. Spread/place avocado on top of bread. Sprinkle salt and pepper. (I sprinkle red pepper flakes, but it's optional). Drizzle olive oil.
Good for snacks and tastes so good!

OMG, this is so good and I know it because we do the same thing. For fancy parties, we do one extra step that people for some reason always think is super sophisticated. You pulse some pistachios in the food processor to smallish pieces, and sprinkle on top. For some reason that combo drives people wild.

Just cube the watermelon flesh. Place in a bowl. Crumble some feta cheese or blue cheese and sprinkle on top. If you have mint or basil, chiffonade. Season with sea salt (coarse ones like Maldon sea salt flakes or fleur de sel) and freshly ground black pepper. Drizzle good olive oil and enjoy!
I prefer blue cheese + mint combo but you can experiment with different types of firm but not hard cheese + fresh herbs.

This is very good. If you add kalamata olives, it's the type of salad they do in Tel Aviv a lot. In extra fancy places you see some ground roast hazelnuts on top.

Do you honestly believe there's only one way to make a dump recipe like this? I grew up with the barbecue sauce/grape jelly mix. I prefer it to the chili sauce version.

Toast bread. Grate a tomato or two, add in a splash of olive oil and a generous pinch of salt. Add to top of hot toast. Sounds grim but is amazing for breakfast.

Take two boxes of cherry tomatoes, cut in half with a serrated knife. Put in an ovensafe dish, add olive oil, thyme, sliced garlic, salt, sugar (1 teaspoon, don't skip!), red pepper flakes, balsamic vinegar. Bake at 350 until it all looks caramelized and kind of clumping together. I swear people think this is haute cuisine. Use as pasta sauce, bruschetta topping, dip for whatever.

Equal parts cream cheese (full fat is better) and salsa. Let the cream cheese soften at room temp, then blend the two together with a hand mixer. Serve with tortilla chips. Always a hit!

Those nights when you literally have 30ish minutes to cook dinner, have these ingredients in your freezer: Frozen rice that you microwave (Birdseye?), mixed vegetables (carrots, corn, peas, green beans mixture), oven roasted or grilled chicken (tysons?), and a couple eggs in the refrigerator, some cooking oil, salt, pepper, and soy sauce. Sesame oil, sriracha, and crispy frenches onions are good additions to this non recipe.

So get the bags of rice and microwave them for about half the time that the package says. Get a couple eggs and beat them in a cup or mixing bowl. Set aside whatver frozen mixed vegetables you have and if you have some leftover steamed broccoli in the fridge, this works well too. Defrost the precooked chicken in the microwave.

Get out your wok and add some canola (and a little sesame oil if you have it!) and heat it to med high. Add the rice, stir fry a few minutes. Add salt, pepper, soy sauce to taste. Add frozen vegetables and stir fry a few minutes. Add chicken and stir fry a few minutes. Make a well in the middle and pour the egg in. Scramble until it's cooked, then stir fry and add the steamed vegetables if you have it, stir fry until it's hot. Serve it sprinkled with a few crispy onions and a little sriracha sauce on the side.

In Spain they also add Jamon and eat it for breakfast. Tastes amazing.

I make a strawberry shortcake trifle that I always get raves about.

1 package low fat cream cheese
1 jar fluff (marshmallow spread)
Angel food mix
Strawberries
1 package frozen strawberries in syrup (optional)

Bake the angel food cake. Mix cream cheese and fluff until smooth. Blend frozen strawberries (if using) into liquid and marinate fresh strawberries in them. Now, find a glass bowl and layer everything.

Super easy and delicious!
