What's your secret weapon "non recipe"

Avocado toast.
Toast slices of good rustic bread. Cut avocado and either smash or slice. Spread/place avocado on top of bread. Sprinkle salt and pepper. (I sprinkle red pepper flakes, but it's optional). Drizzle olive oil.
Good for snacks and tastes so good!

A block of cream cheese spread in an 8x8 glass pan. Dump a jar of pizza sauce on top. Sprinkle with a thin layer of mozzarella cheese and throw it in the microwave until the cheeze melts. Serve with triscuits.

Yum.

this sounds awful!

Have had this done with cream cheese, salsa, mexican cheese. Heat. Serve with tostitos.

okay, now we're just getting goofy.

Everybody I know who has a football related get together does this recipe. It isn't that good. The grape jelly makes it way too sweet. I think people rave over any food that is protein based.

I'm the PP who does this, and while this actually isn't my favorite either, there are never any leftovers, and my co-workers always ask me to make them for get-togethers, so I do.

I also have a dip for the football-crowd: browned pork sausage drained, cream cheese, and Rotel (the fiesta one if possible) melted together. Serve warm with tortilla chips. Everyone loves it!

Interestingly, the grape jelly/bbq "recipe" is a really old one. I don't use the super sweet bbq sauce, so maybe it isn't as sweet as it could be, and it really isn't any different from sweet and sour type recipes, which in my opinion are more sweet than sour.

This is amazing if you do cream cheese, then a can of hormel chili no beans, and then cheddar or mexican cheese on top. It is AWESOME with tortilla chips and everyone loves it....even the organic people who would never in a million years buy a can of hormel chili no beans (I never did until I made this dip and would not for any other reason).

I had something similar for breakfast in Sonoma. Add a layer of ricotta under the avocado, slice some boiled eggs on top grate some lemon zest on top, and then drizzle with good olive oil. Yum!

Cook all day in a crockpot. Absolutely delicious.

Can serve alone or with rolls.

In a similar vein, frozen meatballs with 1 bottle heinz chili sauce and 1 jar grape or raspberry preserves (for some reason the raspberry seeds make people think it's some fancy recipe). Cook in crockpot and serve with cocktail toothpicks.

My neighbor makes these for their holiday party every year and everyone LOVES them (including myself). She always laughs when she tells people the recipe.

Good, more for me! It's always one of the first appetizers to disappear at a party.

My mom used to make a "dip" of cream cheese spread in a pie dish, topped with cocktail sauce and chopped shrimp.

Thanks for your meaningful contribution to the thread, guys. Very helpful.

Feta salsa: chop feta, Kalamata olives, parsley, and some olive oil. Let it sit for a bit and serve with Triscuits.

Orange salad: peel and slice oranges, slice some onions, slice some olives. Put them on a plate, drizzle wth olive oil and cracked pepper.

Ooh, that sounds good. But I may put a fried egg on mine...

This does sound good. No eggs for me though, but I like the ricotta touch. The avocados never last a long time in my house!

Watermelon salad.
Just cube the watermelon flesh. Place in a bowl. Crumble some feta cheese or blue cheese and sprinkle on top. If you have mint or basil, chiffonade. Season with sea salt (coarse ones like Maldon sea salt flakes or fleur de sel) and freshly ground black pepper. Drizzle good olive oil and enjoy!
I prefer blue cheese + mint combo but you can experiment with different types of firm but not hard cheese + fresh herbs.
