It's about integrity. I bring reuasable bags, always.
Wish I could say I was surprised by the answers here, but I am not. Disappointed, sure, but not surprised. People suck |
It's hurting the people you do like a lot more. |
|
I literally don’t pay attention to the price of apples or tomatoes enough to consciously decide to buy the expensive kind but ring up the cheaper one.
Who are you people? |
Some people are just putting items in the bag without scanning anything. |
|
I shop at Wegman's which is around the corner from my home. They know me. And I've never stolen anything in my life.
I don't unerstand those of you that are bragging on here about stealing. I hope you don't have children. |
| I’m confused. Did your friend use her own bags? |
First sentence "A coworker was telling a funny story about being accosted for checking "0 bags" during check out when they had in fact used 3. "
|
| Sometimes I still wake up in the middle of the night plagued with guilt about the hostess fruit pie I stole back in third grade. That was my first and last offense. If I end up not being charged for something, I always call the merchant. They usually tell me just to keep it and not worry about it. |
| I wouldn't intentionally steal from self checkout, but I'm not battling the machine while it argues between organic red seedless grapes and red seedless grapes. I just push a button and move on. |
The machine never argues with me. The code is on the bag. You put the correct code in and move on.
|
Mine scans the veggies and fruits with some sort of camera. Then it argues with itself....you do'nt input codes. It's incredibly frustrating and slow. |
What store is that? Most stores are still very manual. The only store I go to that allows for camera scanning is Weiss and it suggests a few things if not sure but it certainly doesn't argue. |
| Kinds surprised by these responses. I’ve never seen anyone steal. I’ve also never stolen a single thing in my life. If something extra made it out and I hadn’t paid for it (like a case under my cart) I go back and pay. I’m a fed though and we have polygraphs and I want to have a clear conscience. Ethics seems to be lacking in all other branches of government though, even eop. |

I did not realize until recently that the paper bags at Wegmans also cost $.05 each. The other stores I go to have a paper as an option for free instead of paying for plastic. I've been using and stealing these paper bags since the fee went into effect years ago.
That's the most stealing I have done. I felt even worse when I realized that the bag fee at Wegman's is 100% donated to the local foodbank. They say their fee isn't collected for the bag tax since the bags are paper. I did get accosted at Walmart and have never been back in almost 3 years. I ran in to get a fishing pole and tacklebox for my son for his birthday. The pole obviously doesn't fit in a bag and the tacklebox was too large, too, so I just carried them out. I picked the option to have my receipt texted to me when checking out and headed to the door...where I was stopped by an employee who wouldn't let me leave without showing proof I paid for those items since they were unbagged. I had to stand there and argue with her for 10 minutes while I waited for the stupid text to come through. Even pulling the Walmart charge up on my cc app didn't appease her. So stupid and I've never been back. |
| I hate self checkout why am I doing their job for free? No thanks. I'll go to a check out lane and let them do their job they should be happy they even have customers anymore (looking at you giant). |
