| I agree with turning a blind eye, or rather not talking about it because they are afraid of all the racial implications. See no evil,.... |
They are too busy sniping at each other about traffic stops, which don't prevent carjackings. |
You are a true apologist for criminals. I guess you also believe that if someone is an accomplice to a murder, that person shouldn’t be charged with the murder. Maybe instead of apologizing for the criminals, we should encourage them not to commit murders and not to hang out with people who want to commit murders? |
not quite. they charge you with felony murder if, while you are committing a felony, someone dies as a result. it just removes the element of intent. set fire to someone ‘s house, not knowing someone was inside. you just wanted to destroy the house. but now you are charged with murder too. Or you carjack someone and run them over by mistake. again, you don’t intend to kill someone, but during the commission of a felony, you do. |
It also removes the element of you killed the person. |
Maybe we should only charge people who killed people with murder. |
You don’t think that traffic stops have anything to do with stopping other crimes? That’s laughable. |
My neighbors are talking about it and talking to the police as well. I've noticed more police presence. On Saturday there were cameras and more police cars. We are not turning a blind eye. |
In the case of felony murder, they did murder them. There was a homicide, the homicide was caused by the person or people committing the felony. It was not an accident that the felony was committed, so it was not an accident that the person was killed during the felony. It was all premeditated and with the knowledge that someone might die because of one’s felonious actions. It is applied to certain felony types, ones that are deemed to be dangerous. So, I think that we are in agreement. |
I said traffic stops don't prevent carjackings. But yeah I do not think mass traffic stops is the best way to combat crime. I think they undermine police community relations, which are actually really important for combatting crime. Given the number of carjackings at one location I'd think stationing cops at that location might act as a deterrent. If anything I've seen reduced police presence at Wheaton Mall in the last few months. |
This story is terrifying. I used to go to that Target/Costco probably once a week and I always felt I was being smart about it because I was parking in the surface lot there and not the garage. For that to happen at 11:30 am on a Saturday is beyond brazen. |
| There have been multiple car-jackings from that same general area. There are only three ways out of the Wheaton complex on to main roads, two of which are right by each other on Veirs Mill. This strikes me as both incredibly brazen and also preventable. I live nearby and I've limited my trips there. That said, I don't think Wheaton/Silver Spring are much worse off than other areas. I see a lot more crime near my office, too (Metro Center). |
No. People who did not kill people should not be charged with murder. |
I really hope moco politicians take up the plight of people involved in felony murders but weren’t the person who actually killed someone else. Might be a cause so indisputably unsympathetic that the politicians finally get voted out of office. |
You’ve already been through this on a thread last week. Go back there and argue about this. |
