Is Silver Spring under assault?

Yet another shooting, this time at Wheaton Mall. I just can't keep track anymore of all of the shootings, assaults, and carjackings. The lawlessness is just out of control. There are still no suspects for the last 2-3 murders in DTSS as far as I know either. What the heck is going on? Are residents now required to dodge car jackers, shooters, and all of the idiotic illegal car meetups doing donuts at intersections just so they can go to the grocery store or pharmacy? Insane.

SS has been in decline since the 80s, except the 2000s real estate boom probably put a band aid on it.

Many factors, but some include a shortage of police to enforce, and then prosecutors that don't prosecute for "minor" crimes.

Now now councilmembers Jawando and Mink want to make it so police no longer do traffic stops, since they feel cops are being racist in who they pull over. Yet traffic stops are a great tool to catch criminals with illegal weapons and drugs during a search of the vehicle.

It is scary. The Wheaton carjacking/ shooting suspect was chased on foot into my Kensington neighborhood today, but was caught within an hour, according to NBC4.

I used to be fine with going to the Wheaton Target, but this is I believe the eighth carjacking at the mall since December.

Glad we moved out of Silver Spring years ago. Crime infestation is a horrible thing.

I feel the same way. I am/was a frequent target, Costco, and Chinese food restaurant patron of the mall. I never thought twice about carjackings, but this is the fourth, fifth one? I just can’t risk being the next.

All part of the affordable housing plan. If you can’t raise rates, just increase the crime. It’s really just a brilliant MoCo economic strategy.

I had no idea. We are Wheaton Mall frequenters. I may be rethinking this.
