How is WIS advertising differently from any of the other independent schools?

Is Blair reporting just for the magnet or the whole high school?

I know, what a strange comment. And beyond the PK3 entrance year, WIS is actually quite hard to get into. Because of an enrollment cap enforced by the neighborhood, the only spots available are from attrition. Unlike GDS, Maret, Sidwell, etc, they don't have big entrance years for middle or high school. So each year there is only a handful of openings with tons of applicants so they def aren't hurting for students or interest.

But, I guess it makes people feel better to put down other schools they don't even know?

The Presidential Scholars has been around for eons. Why DON’T you already know about it? Anyone from any state or US territory including Puerto Rico and the USVI’s, as long as they are the best of the best, gets on the Presidential Scholar’s list.

It’s an honor for any of the kids from any of these schools to be recognized because it means that they’ve achieve the highest score on the SAT or ACT test. If they are chosen as a recipient, it means scholarship money.

Washington International School is one of the schools in DC that kids were being recognized from.

If you are chosen you do not receive any $$. My daughter is a candidate this year. It is not like NMF. It is still a huge honor.

Scholarship money in terms of colleges offering it to the best. If you are on the Presidential Scholars list many or most of these kids will get offers to cover some
Tuition and expenses.

Top schools don’t (need to) advertise. The point is that it feels like it’s a 2nd tier and not worth the top $. But it’s definitely trying.
It’s a personal opinion and not a niche one at that.

Just to add, well done to the students, not a comment on them.

“Feels like it is second tier” and “not a niche” opinion… my goodness you are a climber. (And an ignorant one at that. The IB curriculum is incredibly tough. Those kids end up completely fluent in 2 languages. My kid a big 3 is barely proficient at Spanish after 8 years of it. ) I hope to god I don’t know you - you and your “niche” sound awful.

If you need so many words to explain your school vs. one, it’s not top tier. I’m just pointing out that some schools are better bang for the buck.

I think WIS is a very good school. I didn’t love the culture and parent peer group. And many WIS threads on dcum have borne that assumption out over and over again. It’s not the kids, it’s the admin and the parent. I simply think you can do better.

Kudos to the kids. Genuine question — how does this work?
I get the merit, but then you pepper in random recommendations, selection process etc. and it feels shambolic

Shouldn’t it just be too scorers nation-wide end of story?

The top scorers

If that was all they cared about, I guess, but they don't. You could start your own award program, I suppose.
