Not sure what the actual qualifying numbers are but I know 3 DC kids on that list and their scores were 36, 36 and 1590.

This is where I would expect Basis McLean to shine but there’s no one on the list. Well, unless you count all the kids who left BIM and have done well at their other schools and made this list.

I thought the Whittle International School closed last year. How is it the best private in DC?

WIS = Washington International School, which has been open for more than 50 years.

It’s Washington International School. Unique since they do the International Baccalaureate diploma which is super challenging. And they do this IB very well. And all of the kids speak a second language. There isn’t any other school in the area like it to really compare it to in terms of its success and what it offers. People always talk about the big three. But this is a school that remains under the radar, but seems to produce excellent results.

Their college outcomes are only so-so.

Perhaps not a school that you have to pay $50k a year for, but the IB program at Richard Montgomery in MCPS runs laps around WIS and is free.

I am pretty sure this thread was started by a WIS kid having fun at DCUM parents.

Very curious how you can make this comparison. Please let us know how you conducted the study.

Also, RM has had police on campus twice in about 10 days due to former students on campus with guns (verified) and the school was in lockdown once. I would not feel like my kids were safe there and certainly would not brag about it.

12 RM kids are PSP candidates on the 2023 list, 14 in 2022, 15 in 2021, 15 in 2020… pretty consistent.

Anyone knows what the ACT and SAT cut off scores are for our area, MD/VA/DC , to be a candidate?

When my kid was a senior, you had to have perfect SAT or ACT scores to be nominated from Virginia. For DC, it was less than that.

I know that two years ago, you had to have a perfect score in MD but less than that in DC.

I know last year a 1570 SAT in MD was on the candidate list.

Sidwell, 120 seniors, 6 nominees - 5%
WIS, 63 seniors, 8 nominees. - 13%
Maret, 80 seniors, 5 nominees - 6%

GDS, 130 seniors, 4 nominees - 3%
School Without Walls, 150 seniors, 11 nominees - 14%
Thomas Jefferson, 425 seniors, 22 nom - 5.1%
NCS, 71 seniors, 2 nominees - 4%
STA, 60 seniors, 4 nominees - 7%

THIS!!

Doesn't matter, public or private, kids have pretty much the same backgrounds. They'll succeed anywhere.

They competed. They just were just far behind local public schools and privates such as WIS.

Sidwell: 6
GDS: 4
NCS: 2
STA: 4

Maret: 5

It’s important to note, most of these schools are like 90-100 per grade.

Thanks for Mart info. What about SAES in Potomac, Whitman in Bethesda, and Potomac School in VA?
