John McCarthy on SROs: "The decision to take them out was made before the study group I was on finished their study. So, I was disappointed by the process because the groups I was working with didn't get to finish their work before the decision was made they'd be out of there." |
True Lewis is an idiot. The question was answered multiple times... they did not need more cops, the decision was made, it was the right decision, move on Kevin... Kevin is such an idiot. |
But in the end the study group would have gotten rid of the SRO's is the part he did not say. All he cares about is an election. He didn't like the 'PROCESS" ... he never said he is mad SRO's were removed. He's on thin ice so he might as well obfuscate. |
Pot, kettle. The trolling to cya MCPS and MCPD re: this incident is ineffective, at best. They got very lucky that there were not multiple victims. Time will tell if a faster transport for the victim might have changed the outcome. Even the EMS were uneasy re: security en route. |
Thus has been an issue I have brought to the BOE and central office's attention MANY times. Some schools in this area are scary. My DD and DS attend blake hs and are always coming home with stories. Kids smoking in the bathrooms, kids being bullied in the bathrooms, kids being disrespectful to teachers, kids fighting and staff refuses to get involved. Just today a.group of kids inane class were tossing a Gatorade bottle around during class. These are the kids no one messes with. The teacher is powerless and afraid to get in the middle of it and just ignores it. How is that for a great learning environment? My DDs friend was smacked in the head by a kid because she glanced at him and he assumed it was because of his hairstyle. One kid calls the french teacher a pussy every day! This is the environment at some schools. Kids are out of control and they need to be removed if they can't behave. My kids want to go to another school but obviously can't and we're hoping for virtual so they don't have to deal with all these behavior issues that just keep happening. I would love for central office and boe to pop in a surprise visit and go to a few classrooms and I'm not talking the AP classes. It's time to cut the.social justice, restorative justice and discipline these kids or put them in a special school. |

There is a security officer in the school. The removal of SROs did not create a vacuum. In this case, the security officer (who is not an employee of MCPD) found the student, called for help, and played an integral role in getting safety measures going.
You don’t need a police officer for that. |
| My kids would keep their mouths shut because they would be terrified that they would be targeted. Seriously, some of these schools are frightening. |
This! All you “these kids who didn’t help are sociopaths” people are 100% clueless. My 7th grader at Eastern had his shirt torn by another kid. I asked if he said anything to a teacher. He looked at me and said “snitches get stitches”. He’s 12! |
Sadly I agree but I would expect my child to call 911 or get help. But, those students in there could have easily been kids who supported or wanted the shooting and not just bystanders. |
If you want to bring in more school security vs. SRO's fine but the real issue is funding. SRO's come out of the police department funding. Security guards are out of the MCPS budget. Either way we need SRO's to return or more security guards, or better, both. |
What an incompetent boob. |
What are you talking about? |
High school kids have phones. Not one of these kids called their parents and said someone was SHOT? What kind of parents are these that their own children don't tell their parents they witnessed a shootingduring lunch at school? |
Of course he didn't tell the teacher about a ripped shirt. This is a student SHOT. You think your kid wouldn't see the difference in gravity of the situation??? |
