The child is no longer living with her.

Also no trigger lock, no trigger lock key and no gun locker found at her home like she claimed.

Ever since she got an attorney, he has been putting out carefully worded, ambiguous statements that minimized her responsibility in this entire tragedy.

Why is everyone blaming the mom and not the dad also? It takes two to have a baby people.

I blame the dad for also having the baby but how is he responsible for the mother’s drug problems, poor decision making, bad parenting, buying guns and leaving them around? Huh?

Is there any evidence the dad is in the picture at all?

If you were co-parenting and your child's other parent had all of these issues, what would you do? Clutch your pearls and say "oh well, nothing I can do." Of course not! You'd be calling CPS. You'd be seeking full custody of your child. If the dad was MIA, that is inexcusable also. I am so tired of society blaming women for having babies (it takes two people to make a baby) they're not prepared to care for, for blaming women when children have behavior problems (where is the dad in all of this). I'm not in any way trying to excuse this mother's poor decision making (and that may be an under statement). I'm simply saying she isn't the only parent responsible for a child this young having the issues this child had, but she is the only parent getting the blame here. Ejaculate responsibly.

Has she even named the biological father of the child?

She is 100% responsible for being on drugs, basically being a drug dealer, buying guns, leaving them unsecured around her violent young child.

WTAF is wrong with you PP? Your apologist attitude is part of the problem.

My post will probably be deleted, but the Roe vs. Wade reversal is going to unleash a whole lot more of this in 5 to 7 years.

+1 I completely agree

The custodial parent is absolutely responsible. As women, that's why we need to be careful about casual sex and who we choose as a potential father of our children. If a custodial parent makes the decision to use and sell drugs, buy a gun illegally, not keep children safe from guns, then yes -- the parent or guardian with whom the child resides is responsible. Those of us who work in schools aren't allowed to ask questions about absent fathers, etc. The parent sitting in front of us who enrolled the child in school is indeed responsible. I will add that this school appears to be very poorly run with some ineffectual "leaders" who made an incrdibly bad decision to have a drug using parent in the classroom each day.

She’s a drug dealer. Unreal.

Wait- is this real? “After her guilty plea, prosecutors recommended a sentence of 18 to 24 months. The maximum penalty for the charges is 25 years in prison.”

Why would they recommend such a reduced sentence? That seems like such a slap on the wrist!

It's the norm now--for all crimes.

Newport News is lax on crime in schools and elsewhere.

I'd have to look for the link, but supposedly his mother refused to sign the IEP and also refused to consider alternate placement for him.

And the school administration absolutely had the right and ability to overrule her and change his placement. They didn’t and this was the result.

How does this work though? What options do admin have?

To take the right stand. If a parent causes trouble, it is easier to give in. Taking a stand means going up the ladder and bosses don't like that.

IME the limited options available to admin when parents refuse testing or services is repeated suspension leading to expulsion, and they are loathe to do that to a child in the early elementary years. Instead these kids with severe behavioral issues just get managed until they are older and the consequences can no longer be avoided because of the severity of their actions. We need more options.

Now it’s getting worse. It’s come out the teacher hasn’t been paid since February even though her contract goes until August. The school system tried in February to strong arm her into taking workman’s comp (which I assume would negate her argument re her lawsuit) so she refused and then they just stopped paying her.

This week, they fired her via email.

This entire case is just a $hitstorm. That poor woman. She’s had no income since February. None.
