I'd have to look for the link, but supposedly his mother refused to sign the IEP and also refused to consider alternate placement for him.

And the school administration absolutely had the right and ability to overrule her and change his placement. They didn’t and this was the result.

Yep, this. And this wasn't a case where perhaps the student could have succeeded with just a little more support or there needed to be more documentation or interventions. This was a CLEAR case of the student needing the most restrictive placement possible. Even before he shot the teacher it was clear. The parents were delusional, the school admins were negligent and I hope to god there are more charges against the mother and I hope the admins do jail time. I hope Abby gets millions. I'm sick to death of kids who are so out of control causing chaos in classrooms and of admins who seem to believe all kids belong in gen ed.

How does this work though? What options do admin have?

Yes, I hope for widespread consequences in this case, too, for the same reasons.
It’s unbelievable that he strangled his K-teacher and assaulted and harassed other children on the regular and it was all condoned.

To take the right stand. If a parent causes trouble, it is easier to give in. Taking a stand means going up the ladder and bosses don't like that.

Holy $hit. If you thought this woman was a bad mother before; wait to you read what was disclosed in court today.

She’s a drug dealer. Unreal.

"The investigation also uncovered an April 2021 police report that showed Taylor was pulled over by Williamsburg police with two other people in the vehicle, including her then 4-year-old son, and a plethora of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Police could smell marijuana and see it in plain sight inside the vehicle, according to the DOJ release. They also found digital scales, "marijuana edibles that looked like rice treats" inside the car directly next to her son, and marijuana edibles inside Taylor's purse.
The DOJ release also states that the third person in the car had a backpack containing marijuana rice treats, gummies containing THC, suspected crack cocaine, two large bags of marijuana, two packages of “BackpackBoyz” marijuana from California, suspected oxycodone pills, green plant material, a smoking device, and more edibles."

But wait, there is mor. Even more drugs found at the house after the shooting. How this woman isn’t in prison I do not understand.

The child is no longer living with her.

Was it the mother or someone else who was accompanying the child to school every day?

I would not be surprised to learn that this little was born with drugs in his system.

Also no trigger lock, no trigger lock key and no gun locker found at her home like she claimed.

I fully admit that this is an awful thing to say ... but that woman should have gotten an abortion. She was a pregnant 19 year with a drug habit that had absolutely no business raising a child.

My post will probably be deleted, but the Roe vs. Wade reversal is going to unleash a whole lot more of this in 5 to 7 years.
