It was really wonderful to see, very moving.

I also want to thank the entire student body for wearing blue and gray/white today in solidarity and support of Magruder. It really matters.

There were witnesses in the bathroom who neither told officials nor called police. There’s a serious dysfunction there and if it isn’t addressed this will happen again

This makes me wonder if it was gang related, they didn’t want to snitch.

And be the next one targeted.

3rd surgery (Sunday or Monday?) to stop bleeding. Rumors from students that leg might need to be amputated.

Not really surprising. They were probably in shock themselves or perhaps knew the 17 year old. Maybe they assumed one of the others kids would do it. The weird part is that they tweeted it out with names. Not like they were keeping a secret.

the tweeting shows they simply didn’t care a classmate was shot . They didn’t care there was a potential risk to other students

In the school context, "you are loved" has to fundamentally be "you are SAFE."

Thanks for sharing this, PP.

Um, true love is an action, not just a feeling.

If you actually love the kids, you keep them safe in school.

You tell them, “See something, Say something”

OR more. will. die.

You tell the kids the truth.

Just a note that the only "source" for the Twitter story is a cop. Maybe we wait and see?

This. Likely the reason the dying kid was not overly chatty either.

Are the rumors that he posted of his plans on IG true?

If prior threats had been reported at Magruder, why did no kids report that? B/c of fear? Gang?
And be the next one targeted.

There are other reports that the lockdown was not until at least 15 min later. This could have become a mass casualty incident.

Someone posted on this thread on Friday that her kid was in the bathroom when the shooting happened. A poster posted "snitches get stitches" and "we all know what happened." Those safety facts are reality too. That is why there needs to be adult engagement, SROs, etc. WHY was growing gang activity at Magruder not addressed, nor even openly acknowledged? In this case, there could have been more victims, but, it was targeted. It is also expecting a lot of kids to put a target on themselves when they have just personally witnessed a classmate get shot. Maybe their use of social media was a way to tell in teenage think? I doubt the cop made it up. Dial back the anti-cop paranoid rhetoric, PP.
