How tall are your kids - how tall are you?

How tall are your kids and how tall are you? I read somewhere that you can estimate how tall your kids final height by taking girls height at 2 and doubling it and boys height at 2.5 and doubling it. That would put my girls at 5’8” tall full grown. Not sure about my son but at 4 months old he was already 28”. DH is 5’9ish and I am 5’7. I am wondering if it’s possible DS will be over 6’ tall. He is right now huge. 5 months old, 21lbs and just about 30” and in 12-18 month clothes. We do have tall genes in our fall. My brother is over 6’ tall and some of DH’s uncles are well over 6’. Just curious.

I think it depends a lot on the individual kid, but my kids so far have been very consistent in height percentile over time and so was I, from toddler until adulthood. For my first two boys they are right on track to meet the "add 2.5 inches to the average parent height." They have been 60th percentile height their entire lives, give or take a couple percent. For my third boy he is the same age as yours, and 28 inches, which is 96th percentile. This is crazy because my wife and I are fairly short (even 60th percentile was quite tall given our heights).

Accurate for me as a kid and accurate for both my kids.

I'm 5'6" and DH is 5'10". So above average but not particularly tall, I think.

I don't recall exact heights but the rule of thumb probably works for DS. He was high in height percentile until about age 3 and then slowed down and was at 50th until early teens and then hit his growth spurt and now at 17 is 6'0", putting him at about 80th percentile. Dr. thinks he could get another inch before he's done.

It doesn't work for DD. DD was always tall. It was constantly commented on, 95th percentile from baby into middle school and then her growth slowed down. She's 15 and seems to have topped out at 5'6", same as me (although her feet are much bigger than mine). I just looked it up and that's 75th percentile but doesn't seem that tall. She's annoyed that she stopped growing, had wanted to 5'8" which is what her early growth pattern would have predicted but she got her period early (as did I and all the women in my family).

I don't think there's really any way to know until they are done growing. I'd never have expected DS to end up so tall or for DD to end up not particularly tall.

I mean my niece and I were both very long babies (>97th percentile) when we were under 1. As adults, I’m 5’7” and she’s 6’4”. So size at 5 months is definitely not a certain indicator. But with the family tall genes, it seems likely your son will be tall.

Op here - DH has always lamented that he wished he was taller. He was a premie and his mom was older and smoked the whole pregnancy. Also growing up he didn’t eat or drink very nutritional food so I am sure that didn’t help.

I am pretty sure that unless he starved, his height was written in his DNA. There are plenty of kids in Africa that grow with little to no food who end up extremely tall. If your DH grew up in America in the last 50 years, he had enough food to reach his full heigh potential.
Now, if he (like my DH) has scoliosis, then he could have been a bit taller. DH is 6’2” with really bad scoliosis. Had his back been straight he would have been at least 6’3”

Oh wow so my DD would be 6’2” fully grown! I’m 5’9” and DH 6’1” but still...

Our pediatrician said preemies catch up to their genetic instructions, even though the may be slow to grow as infants. Also, lots of tall people's mothers smoked during pregnancy "back in the day."

,
My friends are 5'8 mom and 6'4 dad and none of the girls are over 6'. They all hit 5'10 early, but stopped growing at puberty.

Op, the metric is doubling girls height at 18 months and boys height at 24 months.

I’m short and my daughters are also short. My husband is tall (6’2).

So you did not answer OP's question? No wonder the schools system is a failure. If you didn't want to post your heights, why did you answer?

I’m 5.5 and my DH is 6.1. My DD was always tiny (ht and wt) until around 16, she is now 5.7, my DS was always at 50th % in ht and wt until, again, around 16, he is now 6.2.

Yet another useless answer.
I am 164cm. DH is 181cm. DS at 21 is 180cm and DD at 19 is 167cm. DS was not much into food and hence, it is the belief of the endocrinologist he saw for delayed growth that he could have been taller as there is a direct correlation to not getting enough energy to growing below your genetic potential
