How tall are your kids - how tall are you?

I’m 5’4”, DH is 6’4”, DD is 5’9” or 5’10”. She was always tall except for a while around 4th grade where she was average height. My mom and sisters are shorter than I am.

DS 13 - 6'0 should be between 6'7" - 6'9"
DS 11 - 5'4" should be between 6'5" - 6'7"
DS 8 - 5'1" should be between 6'9" - 6'10"

You’re lucky you have boys. I wouldn’t want to be over six feet as a female.

I’m 5’8” and my husband is 6’2”. If you use the trick at age 2.5, they will be 6’2” and 6’4”. Their growth charts in the 6-8 years since have predicted similar heights.

I'm 5'4", DH is 5'10". 11 year old DS is 5'4". I'm guessing he will be over 6'. Which seems to track. DH is about 2 inches taller than his dad. And my nephew is about 6'2" and his dad isn't tall.

My 12 year old daughter is 5’4”, not tall, and she was a little past the black line. There were only about three other girls who were past that line.

There were a few tall boys but most were just average. In school, in activities the really tall kids are a small minority.

What do your tall kids do all summer?

The tall sports kids are probably busy with more competitive teams and programs rather than at camp….

I’ve seen a lot of taller/earlier to mature kids end up on a different track (ultra competitive teams/training programs made up of all tall/big kids) quite early. So, you don’t see many on lower level teams or regular camps past a certain age. My 3 teens have all been later bloomers so this did not apply to them, but was the case for many friends. Often things change after they all go through puberty and things rearrange a bit.

Tall does not equal sports ability. I have no idea about “ultra competitive teams” or training programs.

I have short people and tall people in my family, also athletic. My siblings and cousins did no training programs, they played varsity sports, some played college D1, some went professional.

I know it’s different now but I have no experience with it. My 12 year old daughter did not start early but she’s going for six weeks full time and she loves it. I’m not sure she’d like super competitive though.

My niece is a senior and she plays varsity basketball all four years with no special training program. She’s 5’9”. My nephew, on the small side, is playing D1 lacrosse. He started in high school and added a fifth year prep school. The ones in my family who actually train extensively are the ballet students. Sports is more casual fun.

Can you explain how they train and what is their goal? It’s interesting.

I was hoping my daughters would be taller but I’m glad my son got his Dad’s height

Usually it is the opposite - tall dad/short mom = tall daughters/short sons.

Usually?

We are basically your opposite.
DW: 4’11”
DH: 5’6”
DD1: 4’10”
DD2: 5’3”

Both kids are teens and are done growing. We think of DD2 as super tall because there are few women on either side of the family over 5’. It’s always a shock to see her next to other kids her age, especially on her sports teams, and realize she’s definitely not tall.

Truth! I know plenty of short athletes.

Nutrition plays a role. I have a friend who is 5"10 and her parents are both 5"5 and under. Just feed your kids good food.

Not sure, but I do not think it's a big deal.

My 14 year old is 6’5 and he’s praying he’s done—his take is that if he gets any taller, he’s crossing over into special accommodations zone—can’t buy regular shoes or clothes, won’t fit into a lot of cars, won’t fit into plane seats, etc.

It's some kind of height-related troll. There are multiple revived old threads pertaining to height in different forums. It's bizarre.
