Gotta call BS. Celebs are not chefs. Alison Roman is a trained chef. Lynne Rossetto Kasper wrote her own cookbooks and didn’t whore herself out with a Target line built by Chinese child laborers like Chrissy. She has no moral authority here.

Looks like Alison found this thread.

Nope. I don’t particularly like Alison Roman, either. But I am skeeved generally by the mass consumerism of the American public, the food network, and pseudo-celeb chefs. Chrissy Teigen is not a chef - her food is crappy - and this is the same critique I would make of Sandra Lee, Rachel
Ray and sundry. Marcella Hazan, she isn’t.

Yes, but the point is Alison Roman didn't call out Rachael Ray or Martha Stewart or Sandra Lee or Wolfgang Puck or Gordon Ramsay or Bobby Flay.

Why do you think she went after Tiegen and Kondo and only them?

I don’t see any evidence that Alison Roman is a racist, sorry. She and Molly Yeh are close friends. Molly is entirely self-made and can actually cook. And Gordon Ramsay can actually cook.

Yes white lady - racism is a figment of our imagination

I’m a POC who thinks your calling someone a racist for criticizing someone’s cooking is pretty disgusting when POC cannot even go jogging without getting murdered- shows a horrifying lack of perspective.

So you’ve been a person of color your whole life without realizing that there’s more than one kind of racism? What do you think that suggests about your perspective ?

It says I have perspective - I don’t have to demean women by calling them ugly of basic or white (as if it were a pejorative). Criticizing 1.5 Asians re: their business models does not make someone racist. Just like criticizing Gwyneth Paltrow does not make one an antisemite. There is enough bigotry in the world - we do not need to invent any. You are also suggesting Alison Roman should be fired and lose a book deal because she doesn’t think Chrissy Teigen is the next Madhur Jaffrey/Julia Child/etc. That kind of cancel culture is corrosive and serves no one.

Dp...I definitely think Alison should be fired and lose a book deal. She’s an awful person. Period. You can look the other way, but people like her and Emily Giffin need to be called out on their behavior. They needed to be canceled. It serves to let people know, shut your mouth in public if all you can say is something vile about others.

She didn’t say anything vile. She said she does not aspire to be her. This doesn’t make her an awful person. This makes her a person who has an opinion different than yours. Telling people to inject themselves with bleach is vile. Calling all Mexicans rapists and murderers is vile. Putting (any) children in cages is vile. Why don’t you work on canceling him instead of demonizing a good writer for sharing her opinion in a (barely still) democratic and free society? Grow the F up.

It’s clear to everyone what she meant. Except to racists like you.

You know what...you’re part of the problem. She said more than she did not aspire to be like her (if you actually bothered to read the article and Chrissy’s response you’d know more). Why don’t YOU work on Donald Trump? Bc society is definitely calling him out on his behavior (or maybe you one look at DCUM). She can share any opinion she wants, doesn’t mean it will be well received. If she can’t handle backlash then she can step out of the lime light. No one owes her basic writing and basic recipes anything. Grow the f up yourself bc you sound silly trying to defend this arrogant and hypocritical woman.

All I know is “the stew” is the worst thing I’ve cooked since the pandemic began.

I listen to the Bon Appetite podcast (because I'm an old fart that likes food and likes to distract myself when running thinking about food).

Anytime they have Alison Roman on the podcast I have to skip it or at least fast forward her segment. Adam Rapoport is the magazine's current editor and she used to either work there or have a column with them. She ALWAYS is bratty when talking with him. I assumed at first it was a shtick they had where he is the uncool dad figure and she is the sassy daughter but realized she's just a self-satisfied self-impressed woman who thinks being an overly opinionated asshole will make her admirable.

The last episode I heard with her was about Passover during quarantine and it was especially intolerable. If you want to know who she is, listen to that. (Bitching about the hardship of having left NYC for some cabin with friends and now being there TOO LONG.)

Many of you need to go actually read the Roman interview. There is a lot of context for her statements - a large part of the interview is about her “brand,” growth, next steps, etc. She even specifically addresses her “line” (sounds like a handful of items, not a line) of branded cooking items for sale and why she will back those and not a whole line. I don’t feel like any of her comments were racist or even mean.

What a hypocritical douchebag. This is the tweet included in the article.

In another tweet, she wrote, “I want to clarify, I am not coming for anyone who’s successful, especially not women. I was trying to clarify that my business model does not include a product line, which work very well for some, but I don’t see working for me.”

It's fine for Romano to publicly criticize Teigen and Kondo. But she has to take responsibility for public criticizing Teigen and Kondo. Also, accept the consequences of her words. It's absurd for her specificly name Teigen and Kondo on public forum, criticize them, and then say she wasn't criticizing them. That's just a bizarre and almost Trumpian level of cognitive dissonance.

If Romano was genuine, she could've articulated her own brand without naming anyone else. Obviously, this is just way for her to generate publicity by associating her name to those of two well-known figures.

So you think you are only half Emily? And Emily would be referring to Emily Giffin. Another white woman who decided to spew a vile attack on someone who hasn’t done anything to her.
