Alison Roman slams Chrissy Teigen and Marie Kondo in interview

Anonymous
I don't get why Alison Roman is famous? She's a chef that makes terrible food? At least Chrissy is married to someone famous, and people want to know about her marriage and home life. Marie Kondo is a person who publicized a method of organizing that has helped millions of people. Of all 3, Marie Kondo seems to be the most valid, while Alison is the least.

The comments just make Alison sound like she's an idiot.

+1. If I were Marie, I would ignore Alison's comment. She made herself look dumb by saying it.

I don’t see Chrissy trashing other women for their success. Alison Roman messed up big time.

Gotta call BS. Celebs are not chefs. Alison Roman is a trained chef. Lynne Rossetto Kasper wrote her own cookbooks and didn’t whore herself out with a Target line built by Chinese child laborers like Chrissy. She has no moral authority here.

Looks like Alison found this thread.

Nope. I don’t particularly like Alison Roman, either. But I am skeeved generally by the mass consumerism of the American public, the food network, and pseudo-celeb chefs. Chrissy Teigen is not a chef - her food is crappy - and this is the same critique I would make of Sandra Lee, Rachel
Ray and sundry. Marcella Hazan, she isn’t.

Yes, but the point is Alison Roman didn't call out Rachael Ray or Martha Stewart or Sandra Lee or Wolfgang Puck or Gordon Ramsay or Bobby Flay.

Why do you think she went after Tiegen and Kondo and only them?

I don’t see any evidence that Alison Roman is a racist, sorry. She and Molly Yeh are close friends. Molly is entirely self-made and can actually cook. And Gordon Ramsay can actually cook.

Yes white lady - racism is a figment of our imagination

I’m a POC who thinks your calling someone a racist for criticizing someone’s cooking is pretty disgusting when POC cannot even go jogging without getting murdered- shows a horrifying lack of perspective.

So you’ve been a person of color your whole life without realizing that there’s more than one kind of racism? What do you think that suggests about your perspective ?

It says I have perspective - I don’t have to demean women by calling them ugly of basic or white (as if it were a pejorative). Criticizing 1.5 Asians re: their business models does not make someone racist. Just like criticizing Gwyneth Paltrow does not make one an antisemite. There is enough bigotry in the world - we do not need to invent any. You are also suggesting Alison Roman should be fired and lose a book deal because she doesn’t think Chrissy Teigen is the next Madhur Jaffrey/Julia Child/etc. That kind of cancel culture is corrosive and serves no one.

I’m not suggesting anything of the sort. The only thing I’m pointing out is that there is more than one kind of racism, and multiple ways to be racist. Your view that someone is “disgusting “ because their view of what is racist isn’t identical to yours is something I find limited at best. I’ve no opinion about what should happen to Alison Roman — although I hope that anyone using a public platform can make an effort to do so thoughtfully and responsibly, recognizing that actions have consequences. My concerns are more general ones,

I think your fierce reaction to Alison Roman is a reflection on your own antisemitism and/or lesbian women. But my concerns are more general ones. See, it’s very easy to name call to stop debate.

And I think your response is seriously skewed. I’ve made two comments. Both of them are in response to a limited view of racism. Neither is about Alison Roman who I have never heard of prior to reading these posts.

Next you'll be calling her fat.

No, you are incorrect. Marie Kondo's first book is about consuming less, creating less waste, and keeping less stuff. Spark joy is merely the test to not accumulate. It was about living with less in a smaller space. She now lives in a 10000 square house selling people stuff they do not need. That is the definition of selling out.

She didn’t go after a struggling WOC trying to make it. She made one comment about one of the wealthiest women in America, who btw is milking it for all it’s worth.

How is Chrissy Teigen wrong in this scenario? The onus is not on Chrissy to save Alison Roman from herself. Legions of mediocre white women (I personally can't stand Pioneer Woman) have done what Chrissy Teigan is doing yet she felt compelled to zero in on these two Asian women.

Chrissy Teigen is the current social media star. I actually like Chrissy, but there’s no question she’s open for critique. Marie Kondo - well the hypocrisy there is self-evident.

And Alison is open for backlash. What’s the problem? Are we suppose to feel bad that Alison is getting dragged bc she chose to run her mouth? Everything has consequences and she can learn that the hard way.

the backlash here is a multi-millionaires ruining the life of a columnist living in a one-room walk up? Not the same at all. Teigen is one of the richest women in the US and is no stranger to making offensive tweets herself.

And that means we are suppose to feel sorry for Alison? She made her bed, now she can sleep in it. Maybe she should’ve been more humble and kept her mouth closed. Hopefully she will learn from this experience, but I doubt it bc well, she’s her.

If “we” means internet mob trying to ruin her livelihood - then yes, you need to stop.

Nope. What you need to be doing is telling Alison to close her mouth and stay in her lane. She wanted to speak and get attention. Well guess what, she was heard loud and clear. Now she can figure out how to deal with saying whatever she wants.

She’s not wrong, but the victim act is a little heavy.

Alison isn’t mentioning Pioneer Woman, or Rachel Ray, or whatever other names have been thrown around here, bc those aren’t current references to her intended audience. She’s 34. How many people in the 18-34 age range give a crap about PW?

This isn’t a defense of Alison, but people crying about Chrissy (who only got the food-related deals because of her own celeb status) is just silly.

Wow. So basically bc Chrissy is successful she should take whatever this white woman said and be fine. Yeah, I’m saying you are defending Alison. I can only imagine why.

No, Chrissy is welcome to define herself. But her whining is just as tone-deaf as Alison’s self-indulgent ramblings.

Yeah you are right. She should just take it. Let Alison say whatever she wants and Chrissy should just sit quietly. She doesn’t deserve to respond or have a reaction. She’s rich so she doesn’t have a right to feel anything other than happy that she is rich.

Can you read? At all? I clearly wrote that she’s welcome to defend herself. And she’s doing so. Just don’t expect most people to give a crap about her rich-person whining.

Chrissy has bullied plenty of people on Twitter. Google it.

You call it whining and clearly don’t want her to defend herself. Don’t try to mask it as though you think she should. Most people don’t agree with you, as seen by the way Alison is being called out.

Oh and Chrissy comments when someone attacks her. You don’t like it? Then don’t come for her. Simple. She is know ln to be savage and unapologetic.

Like when she made fun of an 11YO actress on Twitter?

You know why. We all know why.

What are you trying to say? That she’s jealous? In this case, i King of agree with your sentiment.

No this is not about jealousy.

Disagree. Alison is completely jealous.

Yes but she also AT BEST has a raging bias against Asian women even if she doesn’t consciously recognize it. Of all the people to criticize, she goes after two women of color, both of whom are Asian. That reveals something even if she didn’t realize it. And it was horrible. She called them “bitch” and “sellout.” They did NOTHING to her!

White women who think this is fine are the same kind of person as Alison; racist but don’t think they are because they think racism is explicit and overt and intentional. Some women on this thread said Alison probably thought Chrissy was Hispanic like that would make it better or acceptable!? White women are very complicit generally in racism because it benefits them. They hold all these same prejudices but because they hate trump they think they’re Good White People.

Chrissy is half-white and wouldn’t piss on a WOC, or anyone, if they were on fire—unless it would benefit her.

I wouldn’t piss on anyone and I’m black. You go ahead and piss on everyone if that suits you.

A pp mentioned Anthony Bourdain. He did talk about other chefs, celebrities, etc. But he owned his words and accepted any backlash as par for the course. He didn't say shit about other people, deny it two seconds later, and play the victim at the first sign of backlash.

Chrissy Teigen and Marie Kondo have never said anything negative about her or done anything harmful to her. Alison Roman went out of her way to specifically name and criticize these two people.

She can say anything she wants as long as she owns it snd is willing accept the consequences.

I agree, it was so bland!! I think her recipes are just ok but definitely nothing spectacular. I've tried a few of Chrissy's recipes - her banana bread and french toast and both are good in a decadent kind of way.
