Alison Roman slams Chrissy Teigen and Marie Kondo in interview

She didn’t say anything vile. She said she does not aspire to be her. This doesn’t make her an awful person. This makes her a person who has an opinion different than yours. Telling people to inject themselves with bleach is vile. Calling all Mexicans rapists and murderers is vile. Putting (any) children in cages is vile. Why don’t you work on canceling him instead of demonizing a good writer for sharing her opinion in a (barely still) democratic and free society? Grow the F up.

I get your point. But, she said more than she does not aspire to be her. That was her second spin. She called Kondo a sell out. That's pejorative plain and simple, whether or not it had anything to do with the color of those she was putting down. And, she's simply not good enough herself for that kind of talk. Her writing is often that of egotistic millennial. There is nothing that impressive there.

These tweets of hers defending herself only hurt the cause.

Hi
@chrissyteigen
! I sent an email but also wanted to say here that I’m genuinely sorry I caused you pain with what I said. I shouldn’t have used you /your business (or Marie’s!) as an example to show what I wanted for my own career- it was flippant, careless and I’m so sorry

Being a woman who takes down other women is absolutely not my thing and don’t think it’s yours, either (I obviously failed to effectively communicate that). I hope we can meet one day, I think we’d probably get along.

I loved Marie Kondo’s first book. But she moved to a 10000 square foot in LA. She’s selling “organizing boxes” for 30.00 and sundry. That is pretty much counter to her entire ethos. I would call that selling-out.

Why are women on this board defending someone like Alison? Whether you’re white or POC, why defend someone who goes after other women publicly? Makes no sense.

Oh and don’t put a pussy hat on and say You’re with her bc you definitely ain’t.

Alison is no peach but I’m not going to waste a second feeling bad for crocodile tears Tiegen. She is a bajillionaire living in a mansion and wants to talk about having an emotional breakdown because her feelings are so hurt and she’s losing so much money. How tone deaf. They both suck.

^^ since apparently I failed at embedding a tweet, it says: “there are many days I cry very hard because cravings, the site, is our baby we love to pump content onto. we do this work ourselves, and there is NO monetary gain yet. it is just work work work and the reward is you liking it. so to be called a sellout....hooooo it hurts” -Chrissy Teigen

Sooooo...Chrissy is wrong to feel passionately about her site and something she loves? She was about to produce a show for Alison. She can’t feel some type of way that this woman called her a sellout and used her name as what she would never do?

You know why. We all know why.

What are you trying to say? That she’s jealous? In this case, i King of agree with your sentiment.

I think Alison Roman is the most uninspiring chef. And her understanding of Indian spices and cooking methods is laughable.

I don’t see Chrissy trashing other women for their success. Alison Roman messed up big time.

Gotta call BS. Celebs are not chefs. Alison Roman is a trained chef. Lynne Rossetto Kasper wrote her own cookbooks and didn’t whore herself out with a Target line built by Chinese child laborers like Chrissy. She has no moral authority here.

Looks like Alison found this thread.

Nope. I don’t particularly like Alison Roman, either. But I am skeeved generally by the mass consumerism of the American public, the food network, and pseudo-celeb chefs. Chrissy Teigen is not a chef - her food is crappy - and this is the same critique I would make of Sandra Lee, Rachel
Ray and sundry. Marcella Hazan, she isn’t.

Yes, but the point is Alison Roman didn't call out Rachael Ray or Martha Stewart or Sandra Lee or Wolfgang Puck or Gordon Ramsay or Bobby Flay.

Why do you think she went after Tiegen and Kondo and only them?

I don’t see any evidence that Alison Roman is a racist, sorry. She and Molly Yeh are close friends. Molly is entirely self-made and can actually cook. And Gordon Ramsay can actually cook.

Yes white lady - racism is a figment of our imagination

I’m a POC who thinks your calling someone a racist for criticizing someone’s cooking is pretty disgusting when POC cannot even go jogging without getting murdered- shows a horrifying lack of perspective.

So you’ve been a person of color your whole life without realizing that there’s more than one kind of racism? What do you think that suggests about your perspective ?

It says I have perspective - I don’t have to demean women by calling them ugly of basic or white (as if it were a pejorative). Criticizing 1.5 Asians re: their business models does not make someone racist. Just like criticizing Gwyneth Paltrow does not make one an antisemite. There is enough bigotry in the world - we do not need to invent any. You are also suggesting Alison Roman should be fired and lose a book deal because she doesn’t think Chrissy Teigen is the next Madhur Jaffrey/Julia Child/etc. That kind of cancel culture is corrosive and serves no one.

I’m not suggesting anything of the sort. The only thing I’m pointing out is that there is more than one kind of racism, and multiple ways to be racist. Your view that someone is “disgusting “ because their view of what is racist isn’t identical to yours is something I find limited at best. I’ve no opinion about what should happen to Alison Roman — although I hope that anyone using a public platform can make an effort to do so thoughtfully and responsibly, recognizing that actions have consequences. My concerns are more general ones,

I think your fierce reaction to Alison Roman is a reflection on your own antisemitism and/or lesbian women. But my concerns are more general ones. See, it’s very easy to name call to stop debate.

Apparently she is criticizing their entrepreneurial pursuits but she (Roman) has some kind of cookware line herself where three cooking utensils cost $60? She can build herself up without tearing down other women. Pathetic.

This. All of it.
