| One of the issues I have with summer swim (in NVSL) is that you are inviting enormous groups of people to gather in your neighborhood twice a week for swim meets. You are asking to have an incredible level of community spread by hosting these events. My kids want summer swim - our whole neighborhood does. But the risk this summer is too great to our community. |
I’m not saying it will or should have a swim team season, but if they did something isn’t it conceivable that it would look different than a normal one? |
Memberships definitely vary. Our pool, and at least three nearby have bond and associate (annual) memberships. Another pool only has annual memberships. At our pool the associate membership dues ($500+) are more than the bond dues ($400+). So somebody could join for just a year. Even with the bond the most they would pay for the year is $625 for the bond membership because dues aren’t charged on top of the bond cost the first year. |
Yes if there is a season it will not be normal. You could say no spectators, limit volunteers etc... |
| Its possible to do something while social distancing the adults, having extra precautions for the adults, etc. Its not really possible to social distance the kids. |
I agree. I wish the swim leagues would just call it already. Then the pools can move forward with whatever plans they need to make. |
Most kids are already out and about playing with one another, at least in my NoVa neighborhood. So bring on swim team. I know very few families that have actually managed to keep their kids away from all other children for the past 7 weeks. |
We are in nva and our kids have been kept separate. No one is in our cul de sac anymore except kids playing alone outside. |
Please tell me where this is that kids are out and about playing with each other in NVA. |
| I think its fine to start swim team. Do what you can to distance the adults during meets (one timer, text the times instead of write them on a card etc). No refunds if the swim team has to end abruptly or pause due to an outbreak. |
Same, and we are really ready for some activities. Most people I know haven't been letting their kids get together. If its ok for non-essential businesses to open, it's ok for swim team. |

I can't disclose the location for fear of the social distancing police, but seriously kids are out riding bikes and running all over the neighborhood. |
| I can’t listen to Northam at 2, but please report back here if any relevant updates. Thanks! |
| my kids are running and scootering in the neighborhood, with their siblings. Not other families, and neither is any one else in our exurban fairfax neighbrhood. |
Those of us responsible parents have not allowed our kids to be with other kids and families. Those families who are irresponsible, like you are the reason why we cannot have swim team as normal. |
