Alabama girl here. I bet you you would consider us white trash growing up: Christmas lights left on till summer (but my mom worked nights and went to school and my dad drove a truck for Tysons). Welchs jelly jars for glasses, about 5 bicycles in varying states of disrepair in the yard and the white trash clincher: an 18 wheeler tractor in our driveway! Most of you people would shit a golden egg if your neighbors were like my family! We sure did have a nice life though!

I agree. If you feel white trash is racist, feel free not to use it. For me, it's a perjorative and since I come from a long line of Indiana/Kentucky poor white trash I feel competely free to use it. The above poster is correct that the term can also apply to the rich. I would include Britney Spears in that category in addition to the aforementioned Paris Hilton. It's not always about having the couch on the front porch or junker in the yard. It's also about how you conduct yourself.

I know and have met more white trash kids and parents at DC's elite private than I ever knew in one location. That says a lot coming from some one who had a blue/white color family and even relatives in WVA.

The term "White trash" is a perjorative, but it isn't racist by implying that others are trash by default unless one specifies white.
