Oh, this will be controversial. But some things really grate on my nerves, and since so many people come from so different areas, I thought the opinions would be rather interesting. I am the one who posted on another thread about white trash curtains. For example, when you drive by someone's (say a neighbor's) house, and notice that they have those awful temporary paper shades (sometimes ripped - WTF?), or sheets, or old/ugly curtains that aren't white on the outside facing side. Or they are tied with string, rubber bands, whatever. You get the picture. It grates on me because it tells the world that you really have no pride in your house and you are willing to announce that you are white trash, that you have totally given up and if you saw the inside of the house, it would be a million times worse than the disgusting, shoddy, temporary to permanent (!) window dressing. It would probably be near condemned. But far be it from me to tell you how you should live.
Another example might be people that pile of ever growing crap on the side of the neighbor's house which inevitably attracts mice and rats. Not that the neighbor cares, apparently they are used to them and see nothing wrong in living this way - YUCK! I have seen both of these in my neighborhood, and find it amusing since it is supposedly a posh neighborhood. No HOA obviously, but now I see why people have HOAs. What have you seen that is really white trash? |
| My family. But I love them anyway. |
| Mice and rats? I do not have those, but I do have a snake living somewhere in my garage. I know because it sheds its skin and that is the evidence that I find. |
| Where are you going to that you see this so much that it bothers you? I don't see this around these parts. Or maybe I am not paying attention? |

A couch on the front porch.
Haven't seen it much around here but this phenomenon seems to be everywhere in rural WV. |
| People who judge other people by their window ornamentation are trash in my opinion. White, pink or purple. |
| OP, you do realize that the phrase "white trash" is inherently racist, right? The implication being that trash is, unless otherwise specified, non-white. Why not just say "trashy", unless you do in fact believe trash=non-white? |
Amen! |
| Multiple junked out cars sitting in the yard or driveway. |
|
...a racist term that implies (as a PP said) that all other races are inherently trashy by default, so when white people a are trashy, you have to qualify the exception with their race.
What if you have a black neighbor who fits the description of the "white trash" you describe in your OP? Let me guess, you call them ghetto. Why are racist threads allowed on this forum? |
| People who judge their own neighbors harshly because of the superficial things OP has listed. People who think they are somehow better than the other people who live in the same neighborhood they do, for all the shallow reasons the OP listed.... |
Seriously. What a disgusting thread. |
Wow--could these responses be any more hypocritical and holier-than-thou? Setting aside the issue of terminology for a moment, there isn't one person on this forum who wouldn't be complaining about property values if someone new moved in next door (regardless of race) and was doing the things listed above. And I'm not the OP, by the way. |
| Oh, and forgot to add, people who buy in cheaper neighborhoods so they can afford a bigger house, then criticize the people who already live there and can't wait for them to get out. |
| A lifted truck with a confederate flag hanging across the back. I actually saw this driving down M St in Gtown a while back. It also said "Hillbilly Highrise" on it. Absolutely amazing. |
