| Can't get passed the racism.... |
I've heard AA refer to things as ghetto. Is that ok? Or is that like they are allowed to use the N word but non-AA cannot? |
| I don't give black people a pass for saying the n word. Do you? |
I should add that in one instance, the AA person using that term was with another AA in a place with few AAs, almost as a way of fitting in by distinguishing that she and her friend were not ghetto. |
Well, if you have witnessed two african americans using the term, then that logically means all african americans are okay with it. How dense do you have to be to not conclude that? |
Okay, then you know without asking that the black person who called the other black people ghetto was being judgmental. |

I bet some of the people living in the type of homes the OP described have more class then she ever will.
I actually know a person from Boca Raton who looks down on and treats people who have less then her like crap. She is seriously the nastiest person I have ever met. MAJOR self esteem issues! |

I'm sorry, but I don't get all the accusations about racism. How does the term "white trash" imply that all other races are inherently trashy?
|
How is this different than furniture in the sunroom or around the yard or deck in places with little rain? |
Are you American born? Not being snarky, but this is part of American history. |
There are two posts on the first page that describe how the term is racist to non-whites and offensive to whites. I am not saying this to be snarky or rude, but if you do not understand how it is racist after reading the first page of responses, I am not sure it can be explained to you in a way that you will understand. |
| It's on wiki, which gives a decent explanation. |
Or does it just differentiate between trashy people that are white and trashy people of other races? |
Or maybe different races get different special names? |
| dThere was an article in the New Yorker fairly recently about a jewish immigrant who was accused of murdering her ex husband. They were from some kind of sub-group of Jewish immigrants. Someone was quoted as saying that this particular group was looked down on by other Jewish people because they 'kept things in their yard' among other crimes. Point being, people and their issues are the same the world over. |
