How many of you cut off your MAGA relatives?

BUT I cannot imagine living and raising them in a MAGA heartland where everyone is Republican and loud about it. Including my family.

I haven’t told them the reason why but it will never happen. We still see them but we will never move to live closer to them (currently 6+ hour drive away). Do I tell them the reason or just leave it be?

Ever think this may be an opportunity to help others who think like you bit are stuck there? You can evangelize liberalism. How do you expect the world to change if you can’t engage anyone outside your own bubble?

As a gay man, fk that. I’m not hiding in the closet so that I fit in with a bunch of MAGA relatives and neighbors. I create my family of choice, and it doesn’t include any MAGA idiots.

You don't sound like a happy person...

Seems pretty clear that the PP is being made unhappy by MAGA wanting to force him to be something he isn't.

Nope. I believe in making lemonade out of lemons and having a good, productive, purposeful, and happy life. No one is going to "make" me unhappy--and that includes people at work who allow bitterness and regrets to take over their lives.

It sounds like PP is making lemons into lemonade. Creating a loving social circle full of people who love and accept you for who you are, as opposed to those who deride your lifestyle and wish to take away your rights is creating a happy life. And removing those who are bitter about other’s life style choices completely aligns with desiring a happy life.

The post was not one of a happy person.

How so? It sounds exactly like someone who is setting boundaries to create a happy life. I mean, being around people who don’t accept me would definitely make me unhappy. But I guess someone with low self worth could prefer acceptance and be happier closeting themselves.

The PP sounds like a confident person who knows how to set boundaries. I imagine he’s happier not allowing bigoted people, who think he shouldn’t have equal rights to marriage or that who he loves is a sin, in his life.

There is a difference. I don't agree with their votes, but their essential personalities have not changed. She is emboldened in that particular style they take on.

The others don't repeat crazy stuff, attempt to lecture me or put me down to my face. I don't need that in my life.

For all these anecdotes, it seems to be democrats burning Tesla dealerships, trying to run over law enforcement with cars and assassinating people.

They've graduated from " the knockout game" during Obama's reign of terror.

Hands down the most on-target comment I’ve read in ages.

Actually it’s hand down the best indicator that one is not a minority, probably straight and more likely than not a man.

Most people who don’t care about politics are those who aren’t oppressed by political policies.

When decide your whole identity is wrapped up in being oppressed the oppression is everywhere. You really should go figure out what real oppression is to complete your understanding of how privileged you are in the US. Ridiculous

Yeah so you’re totally white and straight and your identity is wrapped up in maintaining the status quo of white Christianity being the “default” in America.

A junior MAGA ran over two 17 year old girls in NJ a couple weeks ago in part because he claimed one of them disrespected Charlie Kirk on TikTok, then he went home and live-streamed an endorsement of the MAGA running for governor. But sure, it’s democrats.

Trump and the GOP have brought so much horrid destruction to our country it is now impossible to ignore. This isn't just about tax policy.

People who pay no attention to politics are abdicating their responsibility as citizens of this republic. You vote based on lies and feelings instead of actual critical thinking. People who pay no attention to politics are a huge part of why this country is going to sh*t right now.

There is a WIDE GULF between making politics a centerpiece of your life and paying enough attention to vote according to critical thinking. Telling you cannot possibly conceive of somebody wanting the orange man’s policies. At some point you may recognize your misplaced superiority attitude. Maybe around the same time you will realize nobody cares about your university degrees. Probably not.

You may want to get a mouth guard for the bruxism you are causing yourself over all this.

Oh dial it down drama queen. You are the one getting all in a lather and putting yourself on a pedestal. I can practically hear you gnashing your teeth from here. LOL.

You have crashed a thread where people are talking about cutting toxic people out of their lives. That's the healthy choice. Has nothing to do with putting politics as the center and complete purpose of their lives. It's called healthy boundaries. MAGA are actually the ones for whom politics have become their identity. It's a cult thing.

Side note: anyone who doesn't object to Trump's taking us into authoritarianism needs to wake up. That's too important to ignore.

We are living in a timeline that requires our eyes to be wide open and fight for our constitutional rights-democracy. I have cut out MAGA friends and family because they are in a cult. A destructive hate filled cult and no one has time for that in their lives.

People who truly love their families and have had healthy, positive relationships with them do not totally cut off family members over politics. Maybe you grew up in a dysfunctional family but are blaming politicians for your dysfunction. For example, having a yearly visit with grandparents and staying at a motel will not damage children.

Because they won’t degrade themselves?

That’s very silly.

Not silly at all. It's very sad when people allow bitterness and anger to control their choices and mood. That post reflected anger. Feel free to deny it.

Caring about politics should not mean allowing it to consume your life and relationships.

Why bother? One person can't save The Children of the Corn.
