How many of you cut off your MAGA relatives?

The others don't repeat crazy stuff, attempt to lecture me or put me down to my face. I don't need that in my life.

For all these anecdotes, it seems to be democrats burning Tesla dealerships, trying to run over law enforcement with cars and assassinating people.

They've graduated from " the knockout game" during Obama's reign of terror.

Huh? I'm not doing any of that. My relative is doing anything violent either. It's all verbal. And I think that is how ir is for most people. I am not doing anything extreme by avoiding an argument.

As a gay man, fk that. I’m not hiding in the closet so that I fit in with a bunch of MAGA relatives and neighbors. I create my family of choice, and it doesn’t include any MAGA idiots.

Scott Bessnet or Ric Grenell hide in the closet? No need to hide friend it's a big tent and welcoming.

Really? The anti-gay rhetoric is strong. You're not listening. Caitlin Jenner is part of this world too. Doesn't matter to anyone making policy decisions.

Hands down the most on-target comment I’ve read in ages.

Actually it’s hand down the best indicator that one is not a minority, probably straight and more likely than not a man.

Most people who don’t care about politics are those who aren’t oppressed by political policies.

Caring about politics should not mean allowing it to consume your life and relationships.

I imagine it’s hard when politics manifests as racism, misogyny, homophobia and xenophobia. We aren’t talking about differences of opinion in tax policy anymore.

It’s actually unfathomable to me that you believe someone in a mixed race family, or who has children who are LGBTQ+ should tolerate being around people who deride their existence simply because they share blood.

+1

You can find low IQ fruitcakes on all sides of the political spectrum.

I follow a lot of conservative/MAGA conversations on X. I know plenty of people who voted for Trump—some who don’t like him personally and others who strongly support him—and I’ve never once seen them say things like “I’m cutting off my commie relatives” or “I’m done with my liberal friends.” What I do see, especially on here and Reddit, is that kind of rhetoric coming far more often from the anti-MAGA side—directed at their friends, relatives, or really anyone who disagrees with them.

I think that because MAGA folks live to “own the libs”. If theyre not torturing their liberal friends and relatives with the MAGA cruelty, then what’s the point?

You've graduated to dishonest and hyperbolic.

The "knockout game" was something a handful of idiot NYC teenagers did, which became hyperbolically exaggerated and racialized in right wing media from back in the early 2010s, but law enforcement found no evidence of it actually being any kind of widespread trend, nor did it have anything to do with Obama.

Also, there's zero credible evidence to support that Democratic voters or politicians are in any way meaningfully or systematically involved in or even advocating for burning Tesla dealerships, or running police over. As opposed to MAGAs who openly and proudly put "Black Lives Splatter" stickers on their pickup trucks, directly threatening to run people over.

What about mixed race families that are conservative? What do they do, disassociate with themselves? This is like the Dave Chappelle skit about Clayton Bigsby - the black white supremacist, amiright?

It's wild how the right wing is trying to resurrect old, debunked talking points from 15 years ago like "the knockout game" - like brainless zombies rising from the grave.

This is how Trump's own dementia brain operates - stuck in some delusional fantasy from the past.

When decide your whole identity is wrapped up in being oppressed the oppression is everywhere. You really should go figure out what real oppression is to complete your understanding of how privileged you are in the US. Ridiculous

This applies to maga 100x more than any other group.

Wah, my family doesn’t want anything to do with me because I support fascism, racism, and pedophilia! I don’t understand economics or science, help, I'm being oppressed!

Hah! I can see why you're not connected to your family. They're probably thrilled to be rid of your arrogant self.

Well are we taking about conservatives who are openly racist, etc? Because I am not going to go as far as to say that covers all conservatives. For example, I have cut off racist maga family members, but my best friends are still conservative republicans.

But no, people who do not recognize politics that manifest in racist, etc tropes probably also fail to recognize the racism, etc perpetuated against them and would not cut off those perpetuating it.

Well, the OP and pretty much every poster in this thread is equating MAGA with conservative republican across the board, and then leaping to all thse conclusions regarding racism and whatever other ism you want to conjure up:

"BUT I cannot imagine living and raising them in a MAGA heartland where everyone is Republican and loud about it. Including my family."

Living somewhere and cutting off family are different things. OP covered both topics in their OP.

But I am an earlier poster who described cutting off family because my son’s girlfriend (soon to be engaged) is Black. I have not cut off every conservative in my life and I do not see most posters on here saying they have either. I think even those who have actually cut off family are more nuanced than you are realizing.
