NCAP Tysons

Gold 1 PM with John moved to MU to give Tysons more afternoon lane space for their younger swimmers and those kids have done well. Gold 1 AM has seriously underperformed and many families are unhappy or have left. Instead of actually fixing the problem at the site Spencer and Company decided to ship all of their most talented swimmers to MU and then to fill the pool space now left unfilled in the morning move all of MU Gold 2 to Tysons in that time slot.

This is not about what is best for the swimmers. It is NCAP being lazy and not hiring a new head coach for their falling apart Gold 1 program.

I can’t speak to the am group underperforming, but it isn’t fair to compare the gold am and gold pm groups. PM was just about all national team level swimmers and gold am has maybe 4 sectional level swimmers and has middle school kids. There is a wide range of abilities. It was never a true gold 1 group. For years the top TY swimmers have progressed from gold am to gold pm.

There is nothing wrong with Tysons pool and you don’t hear Gold 1 complaining about driving 3x a week to Westwood (which by the way, is further out than Tysons). It’s all a matter of perspective.

The Tyson pool is disgusting. And Westwood is for a snapshot in time not an entire year nor are people saying that your child is being sent there because NCAP doesn’t care about them. Apples to oranges.

Westwood to Tysons is a 6 minute drive. 15 minutes from Tyson’s to Marymount. My hunch is most Arlington residents swim for AAC, York, Hydra, or Machine and that the NCAP Tyson’s people are out in Fairfax county

A huge contingent of Arlington swimmers swim for NCAP MU; it is an incredibly convenient location.

Also Marymount to Tysons is at least 20 minutes without traffic. And no one is commuting between the 2 sites, they are coming from their homes which can make the trip longer.

TY may not be best facility, but there is worse - the Renaissance where York practices.

NCAP having a dedicated training site has been amazing. When we had all those snow days and the Rec centers were closed, we were able to continue training. The Coaches simply adjusted practice times to make sure we were traveling when it was safe. I also know they invited other NCAP locations to come and train during those days.

Don’t they have gym equipment in there for dryland training too?

Yes, there is a small gym for dryland. Gold AM does dryland 1x week there and 2x a week at One Life.

Can't argue that NCAP Tysons is better than Renaissance but we are definitely setting the bar low with that comparison.

Are there blocks at Tysons? Renaissance doesn't have any.

My kid is at a different site and HATES Tysons. Says it’s old, hot, smells terrible and prefers outdoor practice (and they hate winter outdoor practice)

- Yes, they have blocks

Saying NCAP doesn’t care about your child is projection from a parent without all the data. It is a self serving view reinforced by thinking about only what is best for yourself. Exactly what you are accusing NCAP of doing. No decision they could make would make everyone happy.
