We are Tyson’s parents and are very happy with this move. It brings back the training pipeline Tyson’s needed after Gold PM moved to Marymount. Essentially it just gives the Tyson’s swimmers a path to the top training group that was missing when Gold PM moved to MM. John’s group was always the top training group (Gold PM), not Gold AM. |
| Prep parent G2 here- should we be happy about this change?! |
Well, Marymont parents are not happy at all. Having Gold 2 and Gold 1 allowed many kids at the site to do one year of Gold 2 before then moving up to Gold 1. And that included most of their fast 13-14 year olds. No one is interested in shipping their kids off to Tysons to be forgotten about. |
| MU parent. This update is not being well received. No one wants Gold 2 moved . Let Tysons have their own Gold 2 and Gold 1 programs. |
Gold 2 is one group, the swimmers that have to spend a year there before going to Gold 1 won’t be forgotten about any more than they were before. Having to go to Tysons, which is presumably further away for most Marymount families, I can see being very irritating and would make me unhappy too. |
| I have a child who is in TY Gold AM. I assuming they will be in Gold 2. I am happy they will be staying at Tysons. I am more concerned about the schedule. Looking at MU current schedule, it is very different from the TY Gold AM schedule. Anyone heard anything yet? |
| What about Coach "C" of Ncap Marymount is he still with the team? |
Nothing but I really hope they provide a schedule soon so parents can make an informed decision. We have a Gold 1 swimmer and the rumor is MU Gold 1 practices will be moving to the afternoon which is really concerning for commute, work and HS reasons. |
They should just let both sites have their own Gold 1 and Gold 2 practice groups instead of MU having to give up a group to financially bail out Tysons |
Why do you think this is to bail out Tysons? |
j By swapping out a full Gold AM group for a Gold 2 group that charges $500 less per swimmer? Yep, that’ll certainly bail Tysons out of whatever imaginary financial trouble it’s in. |
No it’s not. Tyson’s fee has always been less than MU. There is no difference. It is because Tyson PM, which is Tyson’s equivalent to Gold 1 has been practicing at MU for the last 2 years. They combined with MU Gold 1 this year so in order for Tyson’s to have a pipeline, they had to go to MU. This is nothing new. Gold AM was always the second level Gold group at Tysons - just named differently. |
| Then why move all of Gold 2 to Tysons and all of Gold 1 to MU? Why not just add a proper Gold 1 at the Tyson site instead of making a group in parents at each site drive across the beltway? If they wanted to be at a different site that is where they would have signed up for their kid to swim. |
Have you looked at the 2024-2025 fees? Ugh, really? That seems like it would preclude a lot of the Tysons families from doing Gold 1? If it’s 3:30 PM at MU, will be tough to get there on time, esp for working parents. |
