NCAP Tysons

What is being described sucks for sure.

Which swim clubs *don’t* have the less-than-elite swimmers 1 supply the majority of the income and 2 receive “lesser” training?

So true. It is a business.

Where are the gold 2 in Arlington going to go, realistically? AAC?

Agree. And it’s not just swim, either. This is any team lower than the top 2 in travel soccer, for sure. Because realistically, which athletes are boosting the team’s reputation? The very top.

True. But Arlington families have a much more affordable option at AAC and their lower groups also get many of the same perks as their highest group.

If I lived in Arlington, we would do AAC no question, for the cost benefits alone. It’s crazy to me that people don’t!

This happens in dance and gymnastics too. Largely, the little kids subsidize the talented top groups.

Why are the children invading this space? Maybe if we put syntax, spelling, grammar, and punctuation rules in place, we can auto-expel them.

Where does the "Gold Prep" fit into this whole G1/G2 discussion? Is it for kids who aren't quite ready for Gold 2? What kinds of times are right for each group?

Because like all things Arlington swimming, getting a spot is harder than getting tickets to a Taylor Swift contest. All programs are already running waitlists and it’s only early August.

No. Swimmers in this group are working on making their High School Team, involved in many activities or cannot commit to the practice load G1/2 have. While it may have championship level qualifiers who aren’t in the higher groups for the reasons above, it can also have developmental swimmers.

They are setting Tyson’s/MU up like some of the other multi-site locations of NCAP (Loudoun and West) where the best swimmers across the sites train together at one location once they hit HS. Generally G1 is going to be swimmers with sectionals cuts and above. According to this thread that has not been true in the past, but if I had to guess going forward you are going to need sectional cuts to get into G1. G2 is going to be kids that have aged out of Silver 1 but aren’t at the sectional level yet. Gold Prep is your multi sport swimmers who want to stay in shape for HS swim, it’s also only a 9 month commitment so the swimmers don’t participate in LC. You will have some PVS Junior/Senior champs level swimmers in Gold Prep.
