NCAP Tysons

Current groups at Tysons are full but Tyson’s doesn’t currently have a Gold 2 - this adds a new group.

The sites are 15 min apart.

Tyson’s gold group has some fast swimmers. Combining the two groups will benefit both gold groups as it makes a stronger training cohort for everyone.

So where will the merged gold 1/gold am group practice? At MU or Tysons? And who will coach it?

MU. Chris and John.

Right. But now Marymount won’t have a Gold 2 group and Tysons won’t have a Gold 1 group. And with lights and traffic they are much more than 15 minutes apart. Marymount parents and swimmers won’t be happy with this new arrangement and their 13-14 year olds are fast.

Have they made an official announcement? Or is this rumor mill?

Tysons families received an email earlier today from Spencer Ugast detailing the changes, so pretty official if not yet widely disseminated.

Those super fast 13-14 Marymount swimmers probably won’t see Gold 2, so it really won’t impact them. It will impact the fastest Tyson’s kids who now have to trek to Marymount.

Same with any gold 1 families coming from outside the beltway to Tysons. Not sure there’s still a feasible NCAP location for those kids?

Parents are definitely not happy.

So are you saying Gold 2 at Tysons will be a dumping ground for kids not fast enough yet for Gold 1?

Are you new to NCAP, that’s what all the Gold 2 programs are.

For 13-14 year olds??? Yeah that does surprise me actually. I thought the Gold 1 program was for the fastest high school students not middle schoolers.

Silver 1 at Marymount goes up to age 15, and swimmers can go to Gold 1 once they start HS (age 14). The fastest kids will be in Silver 1 and go directly to Gold 1 once eligible. It is structured like this at other NCAP sites as well. It sounds like they are going to run this somewhat similar to how West is run. Multiple practice sites with the fastest swimmers funneling into one group eventually. Although at West that combining starts at age 13 in their Silver group, a level before Gold 1.

Exactly. Gold at Tysons had younger kids and this move will align with other sites in keeping it 14 yrs old and above. Because of this some will likely get moved to Gold 2. It used to be that Giold PM at Tysons was essentially the National Team level swimmers. Hopefully they use this move to have only the fastest kids in Gold 1.

Agree. It will really only impact Tyson kids who are at the top level. If they want to stay at Tyson’s Gold 2 would still be an option and likely equivalent to what they had before. If they want the top group, they would have to head to MM.
