Correlation does not equal causation. The stock of Intellinetix went up 256% over the last 5 years. They make document management software solutions. Did they do well because of DEI, or because they had a good product?

And you know who absolutely loves Costco like it’s a religion? Red states. You couldn’t pry Costco from their cold dead hands.

Tell me you've never been to the Fairfax Costco without telling me you've never been to the Fairfax Costco....

You do know that the Fairfax Costco is in southern Fairfax County. It's full of MAGA down there.

This is sarcasm right?
The Fairfax Costco is like 90% Asian grandmas and grandpas. Are they all MAGA?

They really went too far and too in your face with the trans stuff and I am just a quiet suburban lesbian who just wants to live a normal life and not be associated with weird stuff.

Now that they have dumped DEI I don’t care, because they are still overpriced for things I actually need, but mostly selling stuff I do not need in the first place and will end up in a landfill not that far in the future.

Clearly they don’t have their own compass, they are just going along with what they perceive to be the popular trend.

I found that I don’t need Target at all. Walmart Plus with In Home delivery pretty much takes care of me and my family and does not tempt me to buy unnecessary items. Our home decore is mostly thrifted or given to us, once in a while will splurge for an high quality made in USA piece of furniture. Our clothes are from places like LL Bean and much better longer lasting than Target.

Nobody needs Target. They will probably pull back on Pride and Black History and API Heritage Month and all of the other months et al merch going forward because it was all virtue signaling they don’t have to do anymore that was probably losing them money.

I don’t know who bought that stuff from those collections in the first place. At my target stores (in a very blue state) it all went on deep clearance. It always seemed pandering and I am black. The stuff was frankly awful; I wouldn’t even buy it.

OMG, could y’all stop fighting and answer the freakin question??

Costco it is!

This. I don’t care the politics of it. It’s a store. It’s a store that I never shop in because the merchandise isn’t anything I need. And I think it’s expensive.

I wouldn’t boycott it, though. People work there. People buy their milk and diapers there.

Is it Wayfair and IKEA for furniture now? Where should I get household decor?

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/24/target-rolls-back-major-dei-initiatives.html

What kind of decor? I would look for local artists and crafters. Or pick up things when you travel.

Things like throws, pottery or a decorative lamp. I like the idea of local crafters!

For pottery or a decorative lamp, estate sales, auctions and thrift stores are where it's at.

For throws, it's pretty easy to go artisanal (find a local weaver) or Pendleton is a good company where many items are US made.

Walmart is about giving you the lowest prices without a lot of fashion or fuss. I've never liked Target and now I understand why. They are set up like Walmart but promote their holiday decor and housewares and clothes in a way to catch your eye. Their stuff can be cute and trendy. So I always am tempted to buy something I don't need or want. Then the next time you go in the look, color and styles of these same things have changed so you are tempted to replace it or buy it this time. I always have a sense of anxiety in that store. It's got built in FOMO.

Walmart just has the stuff and it's cheap. It doesn't pretend to be fashionable. It's practical and for everyone. No one called it Tar-zhay and thought it was cool. It has no cool.

Plus their pharmacy is the best I've ever used.

What is this? FOMO??

Fear of missing out

So you cannot make plans or appointments. They have unrealistic expectations (timed tasks) of their employees at the same time.

They burn up unsold food (like holiday candy and groceries if they sell them) instead of donating it. They do the same with other merchandise.

They follow the trends so they were all in on Pride merchandise when it seemed cool but oops, now they're not supporting LGBTQ after boycotts. They used to show people in wheelchairs on their ads. If that's not gone yet, it will be. It's not the thing anymore.

Training for new employees includes anti-union stuff in their videos.

One of the stupidest people I ever hired, to my regret, had had a corporate job at Target. She proved to be the definition of an empty suit. I also had other employees who had been store managers. They had nothing good to say about it but mostly said nothing.

There is always a help wanted sign outside because they churn through people.

I hope it fails.

So you're okay if they're pandering??? Make up your mind.

No, I'm not okay about it. That's my point. There is no sincerity involved. They pander and have no particular political bent. They just go with what's perceived to be in at the moment in order to make money.

They most certainly do not! I worked there PT for a few years (left in Dec 2023) and they do NOT burn food/merchandise. There is no incinerator on the premises and they're not lighting stuff on fire behind the store! They box up the stuff to be sold to places like Ollie's / Goodwill / anyone who wants to buy pallets.

Enough with your fake news.

Maybe where you work. It's not a lie.

It is a lie though. Your “son” is lying to you - (probably is no son, just made up rage bait). I’ve worked at several stores and I know they do not do this. After it’s salvaged, it’s boxed up and sent off to liquidators or some stores send to goodwill. Go swing by an Ollie’s or similar store and you’ll find all that NOS (new old stock…a retail term you wouldn’t be familiar with). Or find a local liquidator and purchase or bid on a pallet. It’s all right there.

Target is not lighting bonfires in the middle of the night behind the store FFS.

So only MAGA shops at Costco now? Wait. I thought DCUM was all for shopping at Costco!!! Look back on the pages of this thread -- which is it, guys? You can't make up your mind!

DCUM hates Costco because it represents big business, capitalism, and consumerism. DCUM loves Costco because they "stuck it to Trump" and kept DEI, have some union workers, and generally treat their workers well. In a perfect world, Costco would just sell each customer a small bag of rice and a small bag of beans once per week, for $1.

Probably. My voting district was +16 Harris. That's 42% Trumpers. Almost half of my neighbors are Nazis.

So many stupid people here ugh.

OP - you are a moron. Seriously. Hey if you don't like Target stuff, stop going. To not go because if this DEI decision is a joke. I'm DEI by the way. I assure you I can drum up 10 reasons you'd hate Costco. 10 reasons you'd hate any big F50 business. It's business, it's not personal.

If you want personal you cannot shop at a big business retailer. Go shop on Etsy and pay the ship fees. Go shop at your little neighborhood artist stores - of course you can pick the ones you agree with politically.

My point is - there's too many bad things big businesses do. It's just life. You go on. If everyone is as choosy as you nothing would run.

I mostly agree with this, and don't buy housewares are adult clothes at Target. Agree all the DEI stuff was always pandering and a lot of their stuff is overpriced.

But also you can get good deals there. I go probably once a month to buy stuff like cleaning supplies, certain pantry items, storage stuff, and kids clothes (I don't buy all of this every months, but this is the kind of thing I buy there). Especially if you shop their Target Circle deals, you can get really good deals. And I appreciate that their stores are generally clean and feel pleasant to be in (unlike Costco or Walmart, though I also go to those stores for certain things, but both feel noticeably less pleasant to me). I don't like ordering everything online. I appreciate a store like Target which is like a modern general store. I think it fills a specific and necessary niche.

But I didn't ship their before because of their DEI initiatives, anymore than I'll ship their now because they ditched it. Yes, it was always virtue signaling.

People, you should not be buying throws, pottery or decorative lamps regularly. Once you buy them, the practically last forever. I can't recall the last time I bought any of these items or any other decorative item.
