What does this mean in practice?

Is Target anti-…what?

Target isn't anti-anything. EEO is still a law. DEI was never a law, it was an executive order of a former administration

It wasn't just about discrimination. It was about Target looking for more diverse companies which really was helpful.

Per the article I read, Target will “end a program focused on carrying more products from Black- or minority-owned businesses”

Dang. I really liked this program.

They are usually fake with prop "owners".
If you want a monitority to have more money, you can.. give a minority some money. That's what I do.

You research every company you buy something from?

It’s a purchase not a political declaration. For any sane and rational person.

DP Honey, this is a capitalist society with no limit on greed. The most powerful tool you have is your wallet. If you want to support a-holes and bullies, that’s your choice. I choose to support companies with a conscience and values that didn’t make me feel sick.

You do you but your $100 purchase doesn’t mean jack $hit to these companies. Virtue signal away.

It means something if we ban together. The Montgomery bus boycott worked because everyone did it.

Good luck with that. Never gonna happen.

Helpful how? Why can't they shop for products that their diverse customers appreciate, regardless of who the vendor is?

I’m surprised Target hasn’t issued a public statement. Of all the organizations that have announced a rollback, they’ve reviewed the most backlash - their social media comments are a mess, they’ve been kicked out of the Minneapolis Pride festival, public buy-ins at Costco.

Exactly. I was at Target on Sunday. Place was absolutely packed. Dig deep enough and you'll find something you don't like about every corp out there. Only solution is to move out to the boonies, grow your own food and buy a sewing machine (not sure where you're going to buy that from, but anyway...). We know none of you are going to keep up this self imposed Target ban. You'll be back in a few weeks. But keep on virtue signaling for fake internet points!

Both. They actually had a program where they sought out suppliers of color which significantly enhanced those products. As a black woman, it was really helpful to have a larger selection of hair care and body products.

I remember this, target also carried some Korean beauty products for a while. I was thrilled. But I imagine those won’t sell well in the middle of Arkansas.

By introducing healthy competition, ever heard of how capitalism works?

And their staff and customers. Target, and all
these other companies are telling us they don’t care about any of that unless the government makes them. Well, there are companies out there that DO care just as a matter of their core values. And THOSE companies will be getting my money.

I walked though one that was nearly empty. So maybe you live in a red area.

According to voter maps, it is mostly blue. But like everywhere, the more rural you get, the more red it gets. So city of Fairfax is dark blue and west of fairfax Station starts to get red.

Meh

They probably are worried about lawsuits

DEI means giving advantages based on race. I actually don't have a personal problem with that and think it is justified, but there are also obvious legal issues with it.

Well after 20 years of spending way too much at Target, our family is certainly going to cut way back. We've already ended our Amazon usage and I have deleted accounts on problematic social media platforms. Definitely a lifestyle shift happening for our family. Perfect is the enemy of good - we will vote with our dollars wherever possible.
