I started a “soft” boycott of Target a couple of years ago when they went off the deep end with their Pride stuff. Nothing against Pride, I am gay. They really went too far and too in your face with the trans stuff and I am just a quiet suburban lesbian who just wants to live a normal life and not be associated with weird stuff. Now that they have dumped DEI I don’t care, because they are still overpriced for things I actually need, but mostly selling stuff I do not need in the first place and will end up in a landfill not that far in the future. Clearly they don’t have their own compass, they are just going along with what they perceive to be the popular trend. I found that I don’t need Target at all. Walmart Plus with In Home delivery pretty much takes care of me and my family and does not tempt me to buy unnecessary items. Our home decore is mostly thrifted or given to us, once in a while will splurge for an high quality made in USA piece of furniture. Our clothes are from places like LL Bean and much better longer lasting than Target. Nobody needs Target. They will probably pull back on Pride and Black History and API Heritage Month and all of the other months et al merch going forward because it was all virtue signaling they don’t have to do anymore that was probably losing them money.
I mostly agree with this, and don't buy housewares are adult clothes at Target. Agree all the DEI stuff was always pandering and a lot of their stuff is overpriced. But also you can get good deals there. I go probably once a month to buy stuff like cleaning supplies, certain pantry items, storage stuff, and kids clothes (I don't buy all of this every months, but this is the kind of thing I buy there). Especially if you shop their Target Circle deals, you can get really good deals. And I appreciate that their stores are generally clean and feel pleasant to be in (unlike Costco or Walmart, though I also go to those stores for certain things, but both feel noticeably less pleasant to me). I don't like ordering everything online. I appreciate a store like Target which is like a modern general store. I think it fills a specific and necessary niche. But I didn't ship their before because of their DEI initiatives, anymore than I'll ship their now because they ditched it. Yes, it was always virtue signaling.
