DP Honey, this is a capitalist society with no limit on greed. The most powerful tool you have is your wallet. If you want to support a-holes and bullies, that’s your choice. I choose to support companies with a conscience and values that didn’t make me feel sick. |
Costco is doing great. There IS a market for capitalism with a conscience. People just have to care and let companies know this - with their money. |
Who says I’m buying them regularly? Geez, people! |
You do you but your $100 purchase doesn’t mean jack $hit to these companies. Virtue signal away. |
Apathy and nihilism are tools of our enemies. |
Indeed. Remember the Dr. Dao incident where a passenger on United was dragged off the plane and got quite injured in the process? Many people on here said they'd never fly United again.. and so on. I wonder how many actually kept that promise. I only boycott one place - Chik Fil-A -- but they are also still owed directly by the family wtih views I don't agree with. Target is listed on NYSE, and is on the S&P 500 so most people on here are probably shareholders through their index funds. Boycotting Target affects... the shareholders. |
|
You were buying furniture and decor from Target? That's easy to replace.
You mentioned two but also Home Goods, World Market (amazing furniture, I have a dining room table and chairs that are almost 20 years old from there), WalMart (basically the same as Target, in my opinion), and the other online places similar to Wayfair. The best option really is to shop locally, but since Target had been your go-to I doubt you're interested in that. You not shopping at Target isn't going to affect them, and I think many, many companies are going to follow suit with dropping their DEI initiatives, but if you want to take a stand then go ahead, there are a million other places you can find furniture and decor. |
Yeah, this. You live somewhere with a Walmart but also have a local grocer? Local butcher, local bakery, local farmer's market, fine. But an actual local grocer next door to a Walmart? |
Dang. I really liked this program. |
No they aren't. Many companies have pushed back. I am trying to only shop at those companies - like Costco. |
Both. They actually had a program where they sought out suppliers of color which significantly enhanced those products. As a black woman, it was really helpful to have a larger selection of hair care and body products. |
It means something if we ban together. The Montgomery bus boycott worked because everyone did it. |
ACE is better anyway. |
I read that they’re pulling the under performing brands, not all of the brands. Hopefully, some of these other brands have built up enough of a customer base that they can continue selling directly through their website websites. |
This is a pernicious myth. If you shop somewhere else, you help those shareholders instead. Moving your spending doesn't hurt mutual fund holders. And more-ethical companies have more-ethcisl shareholders. |
