Please post the specific one you’re thinking of. I need to see this. I’m 💯 for Snoop, but I’d also love it if he didn’t cuss so much.

This is the element people are missing. I feel like the people questioning his involvement haven't been paying a lot of attention to pop culture in the last few years. Snoop got invited because of his hilarious viral videos doing sports commentary. He and Martha Stewart have had a whole thing together on social media for years. They are very funny together.

+1 So many more Olympians are bringing flair, color and their cultures. It's no longer the staid, gentrified event of the past. Why shouldn't commentators reflect that?

In every clip, athletes are thrilled when they spot Snoop. They don’t seem to be questioning why he's there. He's been gracious, supportive, appreciative and totally cool. Wish I could hang with him!

Ex: a surfing co-host asking, "The size of the wave matters, right? Like, the bigger the wave, the more points? Does it work like that?"

Colin Jost noted that a surfer had been her hometown Lei Queen and then made a fratboy joke about the word "lei." It was inappropriate and demeaning to the world-class athlete.

But Snoop is an all-time low for American culture. Remember when the Olympics used to be about the honor of representing your country and the noble, inspiring pursuit of excellence? Now it's just locker room jokes about pot. What a sad state of affairs.

The Olympics has bigger issues.

Ah the thrill of victory the agony of defeat and the majesty of it all and then there’s — Race walking, break dancing, trampolining, handball, badminton, dressage, skateboarding, rock wall climbing and from a historical perspective — tug of war and town planning.

I mean come on the only thing missing is pickle ball.

Other than gymnastics, diving, swimming (boring) and track and field the Olympics is kind of silly. At least Snoop is adding entertainment value by poking fun at of all of the silly sports that aren’t really sports events.

I’d love to see you try a boulder problem or a lead route. Now that would be more entertaining than Snoop at the Olympics.

Loved snoop during the Olympics. He’s smart, quick on his toes, funny and positive.

Great. Now I'm going to have one of my snake nightmares.

I think it was a combo of the reality show he did with his family which showed him in a different light -- more hapless dad and husband than gangsta rapper -- plus his friendship with Martha, his coaching and financial and other support for little league sports and his willingness to laugh at himself.

Well, those are the clips they show. Plus, of course, the athletes know it is being filmed.

Don’t be so extremely naive.

Snoop is hilarious!! Was he making jokes about weed? I didn’t see that when he was feeding horses, hanging with the athletes’ parents or swimming with Michael Phelps.
You really think they picked all these commentators 4 years ago? You must be smoking pot!

Is he swearing during these Olympics?
Not at all.

Those are the only sports I like to watch too...

I have mixed feelings about this. I've always loved his delivery/music, but I got turned off by him ALOT when he talked super ugly about Gayle King. Made me feel like he really doesn't respect women (his lyrics also). And, I feel like Leslie Jones sort of made over-the-top loving of the Olympics a thing and yet it is two men who are getting paid to represent. (Snoop and I'm assuming Flavor Flav is also getting paid something, though he started by supporting women's water polo). Anyway, I realize he's an entertainer and is pretty entertaining, but have mixed feelings about it. Maybe his laid back style is a nice counter to hyper competition?

I had the same thought regarding Leslie Jones. She was hit or miss on SNL, but she was HILARIOUS during the last Olympics (see her take on rugby, for example). I think she took the everyman view of unknown-to-Americans sports and took it up a notch. It was a brilliant idea. Someone could have helped her develop them into fuller ideas beyond her tweets. For example, I think she got a free trip to the the last Olympics to kind of expand on her ideas. She also has a commercial this Olympics where she does her own gymnastics floor routine. However, for the most part, in 2024, they totally stole her idea and was like, let's have Snoop Dogg (and to a lesser extent, Colin Jost) do it. I think it was a a terrible example of stealing a woman's idea and rewarding a guy who is beyond set with fame and wealth. I get it that Snoop kind of knows how to play to a wider audience so they think he is a better bet, but it was blatant stealing of the idea.

I don't know about Flavor Flav but at least he put his money on the women's water polo team so he kind of belongs there.
