Why Snoop Dogg?

Please post the specific one you’re thinking of. I need to see this. I’m 💯 for Snoop, but I’d also love it if he didn’t cuss so much.

At first we thought there was too much Snoop Dog, but now, we can't wait to see what he's gonna do next!

Snoop is one of the most delightful parts of these Games right now. Between this and the athletes’ social content (Ilona Maher on TikTok is hysterical), they are making the Games so much fun.

Snoop had a 180 on his persona. When I was growing up, he had a very negative reputation with drugs and gangster rap life in general. And here we are in 2024 and he’s this charming grandpa who is charismatic and fun to watch.

At first I thought it was really weird. As well as trotting out other non sports people - Ina Garten, Colin Jost, John Mulaney? Now I've decided that because all the individual events are covered on Peacock, the primetime coverage on NBC is meant to be mostly entertainment and color commentary. If you want to watch the actual sports you need to go to Peacock.

The commentators this year are really bad. I've heard several asking very basic questions about the sports they've had 4 years to prepare to host. Ex: a surfing co-host asking, "The size of the wave matters, right? Like, the bigger the wave, the more points? Does it work like that?"

Colin Jost noted that a surfer had been her hometown Lei Queen and then made a fratboy joke about the word "lei." It was inappropriate and demeaning to the world-class athlete.

But Snoop is an all-time low for American culture. Remember when the Olympics used to be about the honor of representing your country and the noble, inspiring pursuit of excellence? Now it's just locker room jokes about pot. What a sad state of affairs.

Today he is hanging with Billie Jean King. It just doesn’t get any odder than that!

Are you only disturbed about Snoop and not Pharell?

So the original question was not why is Snoop a commentator. It was why he had a prominent spot carrying the torch when there's no shortage of athletes in town to honor.

He’s a national treasure. Him and Dolly Parton. Martha Stewart is ok.
