The commentators this year are really bad. I've heard several asking very basic questions about the sports they've had 4 years to prepare to host. Ex: a surfing co-host asking, "The size of the wave matters, right? Like, the bigger the wave, the more points? Does it work like that?" Colin Jost noted that a surfer had been her hometown Lei Queen and then made a fratboy joke about the word "lei." It was inappropriate and demeaning to the world-class athlete. But Snoop is an all-time low for American culture. Remember when the Olympics used to be about the honor of representing your country and the noble, inspiring pursuit of excellence? Now it's just locker room jokes about pot. What a sad state of affairs.
The Olympics has bigger issues. Ah the thrill of victory the agony of defeat and the majesty of it all and then there’s — Race walking, break dancing, trampolining, handball, badminton, dressage, skateboarding, rock wall climbing and from a historical perspective — tug of war and town planning. I mean come on the only thing missing is pickle ball. Other than gymnastics, diving, swimming (boring) and track and field the Olympics is kind of silly. At least Snoop is adding entertainment value by poking fun at of all of the silly sports that aren’t really sports events.
