These random and unexplainable knifings and carjackings seem to happen in DC - but nowhere else. What could it be? Is it something in the water? Or perhaps these poor victim-criminals who take bad drugs and then commit crimes are already generally-criminal-minded? |
Yes, it does sound like she was having a stroke or heart attack before the car was taken. Unclear why her poor dd had to drive her to the emergency room entrance while they were in the hospital. This savage should still be charged with at least manslaughter even if they determine the poor woman was dead before the carjacking. They may have been able to render help had she not been effing kidnapped. |
The news has confirmed she was on drugs. I think she should be charged as much as the next person; saying she was on drugs is not absolving her of responsibility. She was on drugs and she should be charged. |
Disagree, condolences to the family. But clearly the young 22 year old woman needs substance help, recovery and we need to know what the drug is. It's also possible she has mental health issues. No one should be caged for life, I prefer the European model. |
Sure, let her go. Then the next time she takes a bad drug, she can go kill someone else. It won't be her fault though. Just random and unpreventable. That's DC. |
Why is this the knee-jerk reaction? Her own mother told police and EMTs that Kayla Kenisha Brown met some random guy from the internet and took drugs and had been acting "crazy" for the last three days. |
I actually think she will be convicted - this is too high profile, no judge with half a brain cell would let her walk if for no other reason than their reputation - but she will likely only do a few years in the psych ward. Very unlikely she will get the jail sentence she deserves. |
This. She needs help, not a cage. |
They were not in the hospital. The victim had just finished physical therapy when she was not feeling well and the daughter drove her from physical therapy to the hospital ER. When she got to the ER, she left the car running (presumably to keep the A/C on for her mother) and went in to get a wheelchair for her mother. That's when the woman with the drug problem jumped into the car and drove away. |
Great. Move to Europe. She should be caged for a very, very long time. |
She needs to be involuntarily committed to an institution where she cannot get out to hurt someone else. She needs to stay in that facility until she is no longer a threat to anyone else, even if that means being committed for life. Obviously with Hinckley, he was able to show that he was no longer a threat and was released, but she should be committed until she is safe to release into society. But someone who has a substance abuse issue where they cannot control themselves and commits crimes while under the influence is a danger to society and needs to be kept away from society. |
| Kayla Brown’s parents contacted 911 to seek help for their daughter who wasn’t acting normal after consuming drugs. Why did the authorities leave her unattended at the hospital? She should have been under constant supervision by hospital staff or security. I feel that this is the fault of our law enforcement and health care system. We need a better way to address mental illness and drug abuse. The law enforcement and hospital need to take some blame for this event. |
Do you realize how much staffing is necessary to stay with every patient like the carjacker? Good luck with that. |

She should have been in police custody. |
