They are getting arrested and not being able to be prosecuted because the crime lab isn't accredited. It has to be more than arrests ahole. That is the opposite of sensationalist, it's pragmatic. Brass tacks my A$$ you just want an immediate fix...because jailing large portions of any population has always resulted in improvements. |
Are you talking about billionaires? Maybe we aren't so far apart. Those bastards all lie, cheat, and steal. |
| DC on track to be Baltimore in 5 years. |
Exactly what the Che guy was talking about, this right here. |
| I want bike lands and a safe city. I think most dc voters share this vision. |
If by "better" you mean we have far more of it, sure. It's the DC delusion again. In NY or Chicago they actually hold people accountable. And when things get bad, people get voted out of office. Here we're like, "How dare anyone say something bad about our great city?!?" |
Look, friend, it’s clear you were writing endless reams of words about how Elon Musk or Enron or whatever are the bigger concerns and we’re all here to tell, for normal city living people, this thread is focused on the actual stuff that is pressing. That’s the 38% uptick in violent crime in a year. So yes, I would like an immediate fix. You showed your true intentions and how you are okay with this weak on crime progressive criminal justice reform nonsense in your response. Yes, we can lock people up. I know you think we should sing kunbaya and everyone gets a restorative justice hug and then the violence interruptors step in and like it’s super mellow and whatever. In reality, what works is the thread of swift immediate and strict punishment. No one wants your pitiful excuse for criminal justice. |
Sorry, no. This is one of the many, many excuses that the prosecutors made, but if you see what they actually do they're just _extremely_ soft on crime. Do you remember this story? A guy just randomly tried to murder a pub owner in front of his 4 your old son, pulling a gun out and saying "Sit down, white boy. I’m going to end you." The owner had to knock the gun out of the guys hand and throw him out of the restaurant: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/armed-man-who-attacked-dc-pub-owner-in-front-of-4-year-old-boy-offered-plea-deal-to-victims-dismay/3382018/ The whole thing was caught on camera. The owner said he wanted it to go to trial and wanted to testify. But no, the prosecutors offered the attempted-murderer a plea deal: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/pub-owner-disturbed-by-absurd-decisions-in-case-of-man-who-pulled-gun-and-punched-him/3385225/ So how many years did he get for trying to murder someone? Oh, hah, did I say years. Wait, this is D.C. The prosecutor only asked for 18 months. The judge decided to give him only 8 months: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/doordash-driver-gets-8-months-for-assault-on-dc-restaurant-owner-who-was-attacked-in-front-of-young-son/3419443/ People can try to make all the excuses they want. Even with a slam dunk case, with video evidence and a witness that's begging to testify, the prosecutors and judges do what they can to make sure would be murderers are back on the streets in just a few months. |
Hardly. Have you been to Baltimore? |
this is the same argument they made about closed schools in DC. “You don’t need schools you rich b*txh. And you didn’t care about black kids before, so don’t act like you do now.” it’s extremely nihilistic and has nothing to do with what people in W7 and 8 actually want. |
You are off the rails dude. Seriously. It was assault and unregistered weapon and he has no priors. Not that it was egregious but this is not the case I would pull as an example of soft on crime. He gets 8 months in jail. And will likely never be able to work anywhere else. Which btw will increase his odds of reoffending. I am not saying don't jail people- I actually want more emphasis on all crimes being followed through, like rape- ever seen how many rape kits are backlogged? but I think you are misguided in what thinking that the results will somehow be transformative for the population. Its either such a large percentage of the population is commiting crimes that removing all of them would be completely disruptive and cost heavy OR there are repeat offenders and organized crime at work. Literally any time crime, especially violent crime, increases there is organized crime behind it. Any city. Any time period but keep thinking that cutting off the soldiers/minions will be a drop in the bucket. Organized crime works because it gets young kids who are impoverished and without much chance for social/economic mobility opportunity for funds and community. Until we address the lack of those two for adolescents, teens, and young adults it's just the taxpayer paying for people in jail who not only donT economicallh contribute but are also a drain on resources provided by those who contribute. |
it was in front of a FOUR YEAR OLD you absolute cretin. 8 months and this maniac is back on the streets? Come on. |
Perfect example for why crime is so bad in this city now. Guy walks into a bar, completely unprovoked pulls a gun on the owner while he's sitting with his 4 year old son, says he's going to end him, starts attacking him, gets the gun knocked out of his hand and tries to grab it again, leaves. And thinking he should have gotten more than 8 months means you're "off the rails" to some people here. |
+1 It's hard for me to believe that anyone thinks ok for that guy to be walking freely among us. |
|
We can cut through this all pretty easily:
Dumb white liberals overpaid for housing in “gentrified” areas relying on virtually free credit/near 0% interest rates from the government. They all now feel stupid, and don’t want to raise their children in parks that serve as homeless encampments littered with heroin needles. The District doesn’t believe in policing or prosecuting crime. It’s plain as day. Your mayor and prosecutor admit it. They campaign on it. I’m not remotely a MAGA but you all need to get real about what “democrat” leadership has done to the city. |
